Koln will be disappointed to have lost 2-1 against Hamburger SV considering they are likely to be one of several relegation rivals by the end of the season.

That result left them just one point above the 16th-placed relegation playoff spot, though they are also only three points from fourth-placed Augsburg.

Manager Rene Wagner will hope that his side can earn just their second win in seven clashes with Gladbach, but a defeat would be their third in that time.

The Billy Goats know that centre-back Timo Hubers is dealing with a knee injury, meaning the most likely duo to start in the middle of their back four are Jahmai Simpson-Pusey and Luka Lochoshvili.

Borussia Monchengladbach have been in the top flight since 2008-09, but there is no doubt that they have flirted with the drop in recent years, finishing with 34 points in 2023-24 and just 38 points in 2025-26.

Their latest setback was a 4-3 loss against Mainz 05 before the start of the international break, and that was 10th time in 11 Bundesliga fixtures that they failed to win (W1, D4, L5).

It came as no surprise to see Eugen Polanski replaced in the dugout in favour of former St Pauli boss Alexander Blessin, who has considerable experience battling at the bottom of the table.

However, the head coach will not be able to name a full-strength XI in his debut game due to injuries to attackers like Franck Honorat, so he may have to field Hugo Bolin, Tim Kleindienst and Robin Hack in the frontline.
