Whsiper+ analysis

Authenticity (2.5/5): Low information on sources

After his fine start to the season in a struggling Wolves side, Matheus Cunha has peaked the interest of Tottenham, who want to sign the Brazilian in January.

That is according to tbrfootball.com, who don't disclose their sources, but report that Man Utd are also interested, suggesting the source is close to Wolves and/or Cunha.

Value (3.5/5): Spurs will have to pay high price

The ball is firmly in Wolves' court, as the Black Country side will be desperate to keep hold of a player who has contributed 10 goal involvements in the Premier League this season, including three goals and two assists as Wolves picked up their first two wins in their two most recent outings.

Signing for £45 million in 2023, Wolves will want a decent profit on a player under contract until 2027.

Suitability (4/5): Premier League-quality striker

It took him time to adapt to life in England, but the Brazilian international has proven he is quite capable of leading the line in struggling Premier League sides, so surely he can also do a stellar job for a team that can provide him with more chances?

He also has experience on both wings and in various midfield roles, which would add versatility to Ange Postecoglou's attack.

Upgrade? (2.5/5): Spurs invested in CF in the summer

Dominic Solanke may not have hit the ground running in North London, but over his time at Bournemouth, he showed better consistency at this level than Cunha ever has, while he has certainly not been a flop at Spurs.

Cunha is having the better season so far, but it wouldn't be fair to Solanke to call the Brazilian an upgrade.

Logic (2/5): Better shot at Old Trafford

Given the Solanke situation at Spurs, it could make more sense for Cunha to head to Old Trafford – if United's interest is genuine, and indeed if he wants to move away from Molineux – especially with neither Rasmus Hojlund nor Joshua Zirkzee expected to be Ruben Amorim's first-choice striker.

Whisper+ verdict: 14.5/25

While Cunha is going through a purple patch right now, Spurs might want to remind themselves that form is only temporary. They would have to spend big in a position that they spent big on in the summer, and allowing Solanke a little more time to bed in might be the healthier option.
