With the 2025-26 season fast approaching, the transfer window is entering its final stages. While most clubs have completed their business, some of Europe’s biggest sides are still searching for reinforcements – and Real Madrid may be among them, with speculation continuing over possible signings to strengthen their bid to challenge Barcelona for the La Liga title.

According to The Daily Mail, the Spanish giants have set their sights on Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton. Although recent reports have focused on Real’s interest in centre-back Marc Guehi, scouts from the Bernabeu outfit are said to have been making regular visits to Selhurst Park to keep close tabs on Wharton’s performances.

The 21-year-old England international is attracting plenty of Premier League attention too, with Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City all reportedly interested. Tottenham Hotspur even enquired about a potential move back in May, only for Palace to respond by placing a £100m valuation on their midfield talent.

Palace boss faces uncertainty over key players – and himself

Interest in Wharton and Guehi is causing concern for Palace head coach Oliver Glasner. Fresh from winning the FA Community Shield – in which his side defeated Liverpool on penalties – the Austrian admitted that his own future at the club is also uncertain.

“At the moment, the most important thing is to build the team, so my contract is not important,” Glasner told reporters. Speaking on the potential departure of his key men, he added: “We will see. Marc and I share the same fate. Marc decides about his future, the same as I do. Of course, we all wish for him to sign a new contract – that will be his decision. We all want to keep this team together because they have done so well. But you never know what will happen in this sometimes crazy transfer market.”

Whether Real Madrid or another major club will be willing to meet Palace’s huge asking price for Wharton remains to be seen. Time is running short for any suitor, with the transfer window closing in just 20 days. What is clear, however, is that the Eagles are fully aware of the value of their young stars – and have no intention of letting them leave on the cheap.
