Chelsea have made their first major signing of the Xabi Alonso after agreeing a fee with Aston Villa for Morgan Rogers, who is currently away with England at the 2026 World Cup.
According to David Ornstein, Villa have accepted a bid of £117m for the midfielder, who will head to London for a medical after he arrives back in the United Kingdom next week.
Rogers will reportedly sign a six-year deal, with the option of a seventh, at Stamford Bridge, where he will link up with some of his England teammates, including Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah.
Ornstein has reported that while other clubs were interested in Rogers, namely Arsenal, the former Middlesbrough man made it clear that he wanted to sign for Chelsea after talks with Alonso.

Crystal Palace are reportedly bracing themselves for bids for Maxence Lacroix after the World Cup and have told potential suitors what they will need to pay to get him out of Selhurst Park.
According to the Times, Crystal Palace have set Lacroix's asking price at £55m, which is unlikely to deter Chelsea and Arsenal, both of whom are said to be considering a move for the defender.
The Frenchman enjoyed a stellar campaign with the Eagles in 2025/26 and is currently away with France at the World Cup. Any potential move will have to wait until he returns to the United Kingdom in the coming weeks.
Lacroix signed for Palace in August 2024, and he has been one of their most consistent performers ever since.
Liverpool to bid for Illia Zabarnyi

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing PSG's Illia Zabarnyi this summer, with the Reds looking to bolster their defensive options ahead of the new season.
According to Liverpool-based journalist David Lynch, Andoni Iraola is keen on reuniting with Zabarnyi, whom he managed at Bournemouth for a couple of seasons between 2023 and 2025.
The Ukrainian has failed to establish himself as a regular at the back for the French side since signing for them last summer, which means the door could be ajar for the Reds.
With Ibrahima Konate already out the door, Liverpool are in need of more PL-proven defenders, and Zabarnyi fits the bill.
