🔥 Our Hot tip

First goal - Coventry

Sunderland have conceded first in six of their eight league matches.

It is the battle of the basement boys this weekend, as Coventry City entertain Sunderland on Saturday, October 31.

As the newly promoted side this season, it is almost understandable that the Sky Blues find themselves in the relegation zone ahead of their ninth Premier League fixture.

For Sunderland, they are in their second season back in the English top flight, but being in Europe has certainly taken its toll on the club, as they are rooted to the bottom of the league table ahead of their visit to the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Coventry City vs Sunderland key stats

  • Coventry have managed just two wins across their eight league matches.

Frank Lampard's men are getting a rude awakening about the Premier League and its rigours, as even after they recorded back-to-back wins, they were brought down to earth in the following weeks.

The hosts have lost six of their eight league matches, including their most recent two matches against Tottenham and Fulham.

The comfort for the home side is that four of the six goals they have scored this term arrived on their own turf, all of them coming in one fixture, which is an encouraging sign.

Coventry have an excellent record against Sunderland, winning six of the last 12 head-to-heads, while they lost just one of those meetings.

Sunderland's fall from grace has been shocking, as they are currently nine points worse off than they were at the same stage last season.

Regis Le Bris has had to juggle his squad in Europe, which has affected their domestic campaign, leaving them last in the division heading into this weekend's action.

The Black Cats are on a six-game winless streak in the league, but they got over the line in their midweek EFL Cup with Brentford, which the visitors will hope inspires them in this fixture.

With the worst away record in the division and less preparation time than their hosts for this encounter, Sunderland could be staring down the barrel of a defeat here.

Whispers predicts: Coventry City 2-1 Sunderland

Coventry's record against the visitors suggests that they could record another win here, which is worth backing at 2.90 odds.

However, considering their topsy-turvy season so far, it may be worth considering opting for a double chance bet with Coventry/ Draw at 1.50 odds.

Despite both teams being poor in front of goal, they also have leaky defences that could allow each other in, making the BTTS – Yes bet at 1.70 odds a realistic one.

Five of Coventry's last seven competitive matches produced over 3.5 goals, but perhaps a safer option is the over 2.5 goals bet at 1.86 odds.

The visitors have conceded first in six of the first eight games, which is the joint-highest in the league, so backing the hosts to score first at 2.13 odds is another logical betting option.

📈 Coventry City vs. Sunderland — Whispers' Tips

> 1×2 – Coventry at 2.90 | Likelihood: Low

> Over 2.5 goals at 1.86 | Likelihood: Medium

> Both teams to score – Yes at 1.70 | Likelihood: High

> Coventry to score first at 2.13 | Likelihood: Medium

> Double chance – Coventry/ Draw at 1.50 | Likelihood: High
