Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (2.5/5): Nkunku linked with Arsenal
Arsenal have signed the likes of Jorginho, Kai Havertz, and Raheem Sterling from Chelsea in recent seasons and it is being suggested that Mikel Arteta now wants to sign Christopher Nkunku, who has fallen down the pecking order under Enzo Maresca.
The story comes from CaughtOffside, who provide little information about their source.
Value (3/5): Chelsea's asking price remains unknown
Chelsea signed Nkunku from RB Leipzig in a deal reported to be worth £49.7m. It remains unclear what they will demand for the 27-year-old but it is claimed they will not stand in his way should he decide to leave.
Suitability (3.5/5): Jack of many trades
He has not managed to regularly start under Maresca, but thanks to his versatility, the Frenchman has still 18 league appearances under his belt this term. He has played as a left-winger, attacking midfielder, second striker and central forward. This is certainly going to appeal to Mikel Arteta, who likes to experiment with his tactics.
Upgrade? (3.5/5): Could push Martinelli on the bench
Gabriel Martinelli is currently Arteta's preferred option at the left flank. However, Nkunku, known for his passing and dribbling ability, is capable of replacing the Brazilian, especially in games wherein the Gunners have struggled to cut open low blocks.
Logic (4/5): Push for a switch
Both Jorginho and Havertz have enjoyed promising stints at Arsenal after moving to North London from Stamford Bridge. With Maresca showing little faith in his talents, it would be best for Nkunku to follow the two players.
Whisper+ verdict: 16.5/25
Arsenal are the right fit for Nkunku, and with his representatives now reported to be working on his exit from Chelsea, a winter switch is highly possible.
