El Súper Clásico Match preview
The long-awaited derby will happen next on 15.03.2024 marking the 11th round of the Liga MX Clausura. Both sides last met in the 2020 Aperatura Quarterfinals, in which Guadalajara knocked out América with a 3-1 aggregate score. Unfortunately, Chivas went on to get eliminated in the semi-finals by León, the club that eventually became the Liguilla champions.
Both sides in the known as El Súper Clásico derby are incredibly eager for some league silverware, as there has been an absence of such for a couple of years now. Guadalajara, coached by Víctor Manuel Vucetich’s latest Liga MX success has been winning the 2017 Clausura playoffs. The following Liguilla edition – the Apertura 2018 was won by América, and since then, both clubs have run low on league accomplishments.
Vucetich’s side came close to reaching the finals of the 2020 Aperatura after drawing with León in the first game. A disappointing 1-0 loss in the second leg of the fixture, however, crushed Las Chivas' hopes. The team that employs the strict rule of no foreigners being allowed to play for the club had fallen into a slum in the years after winning the 2017 Clausura. They recorded some pretty dreadful league finishes as low as 16th place but seem to have stabilized now. It has always been only a matter of time to get back on their feet, as the team of Guadalajara has been one of the most consistent Liga MX sides historically, even though they are limited by their firm believes. The Striped Goats' performances have improved significantly, and they have recently proven to be able to take hold of Club América.
América, on the other hand, has kept up its frequent top 4 Liga MX finishes, which is something to be praised for. Manager Miguel Herrera has been reigning for three years now and has definitely been able to settle nicely with the squad. He's the man responsible for the Apertura 2018 triumph.
