Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (3/5): Chelsea keen on Rodriguez
Jadon Sancho is the latest left-winger to fail at Chelsea, who are considering sending him back to Manchester United. Their new target to strengthen the position is Real Betis talent Jesus Rodriguez.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who add that “an increasing number of elite” European clubs are following the Spaniard, who made his breakthrough this term.
Value (2/5): Betis not offering any discount
The report underlines that Los Verdiblancos value their 19-year-old talent at £35million, and will hold out for the figure in the summer. Considering this is his breakthrough season, the figure may prove to be too risky for the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Suitability (3.5/5): Pacey winger
The Lightning quick Spaniard is a nightmare to defend, as he combines his pace and silky feet to take on opposition defences. Further, he has established himself as a fan favourite in Seville with his work ethic and relentlessness, in and out of possession.
Upgrade? (4/5): Sancho replacement
Chelsea have already future proofed their right-wing by signing Sporting CP winger Geovany Quenda. Now their focus is on strengthening the left-flank, as Sancho has not managed to win over the manager and fans with his shabby performances. Rodriguez could arrive as his direct replacement.
Logic (1.5/5): Best to remain in Spain
Chelsea have made a good habit of signing young talents and disrupting their development, owing to lack of proper planning. Accordingly, it would be best for Rodriguez to continue at Betis and accumulate plenty of senior minutes before moving elsewhere.
Whisper+ verdict: 14/25
Rodriguez is certainly an exciting prospect but at this point, the move doesn't appear very sensible for either party.
