Brentford vs Tottenham: Why to back Richarlison to score at 7/4 in Premier League clash

After a long and frustrating pause, the football is back, and the brand-new 2026-27 Premier League season is finally underway.

Tottenham Hotspur travel to the Gtech Community Stadium to face Brentford in their opening fixture on Saturday, with Roberto De Zerbi hoping to begin the new campaign with a statement of intent.

After steering the club to Premier League safety by the finest of margins last season, Spurs have adopted a markedly different approach over the summer, with the hierarchy determined to reshape the squad.

Six new players have arrived, including several blockbuster additions, and with further reinforcements reportedly still on the agenda, Tottenham could prove to be one of the division's more entertaining sides this season.

The Brazilian joined Tottenham from Everton in January 2022 for £50m, but it would be fair to say that his time in North London has yet to fully live up to expectations.

Richarlison has scored 32 goals in 133 appearances for Spurs and has endured his fair share of injury problems, but for a player of his pedigree and price tag, the club will expect a greater return.

Now 29, this could be a pivotal season for the Brazilian, who will know that another underwhelming campaign may leave him vulnerable to being replaced next summer.

Richarlison scored 12 goals across all competitions last season and will be targeting an improved return this time around, especially after enjoying an encouraging pre-season in which he found the net in three matches.

The former Everton man should be among the first names on the teamsheet against Brentford, and at 7/4, he is an appealing option to score against the Bees.

Brentford vs Tottenham: Expectations are high from Spurs

Tottenham also boast an encouraging recent record against their London rivals, having gone unbeaten in their last six meetings, and they are priced at 19/10 to begin the campaign with all three points.

The visitors have not conceded in any of their last three encounters with Brentford and will be eager to extend that run, ideally with Richarlison making an early impact at the other end.

More importantly, Tottenham have shown genuine ambition in the transfer market and have given De Zerbi the backing he wanted, although any rebuilding process will inevitably require patience.

For Richarlison, meanwhile, this season represents an opportunity to repay his manager's faith, rediscover his most destructive form and force his way back into the Brazil picture under Carlo Ancelotti.
