Best goal and assist Premier League combos: Forest duo on the attack

With another full round of English top-flight action ahead this weekend, we look at the best goal and assist Premier League combos for matchday 23.

The winter break has given some teams and players a renewed vigour as plenty of goals flew in during the mid-week Premier League fixtures.

Liverpool and Luton put four goals past Chelsea and Brighton in their respective triumphs. Newcastle, Man City, Tottenham and Crystal Palace also notched three goals in their fixtures.

The Premier League goals are coming thick and fast and these particularly deadly partnerships could strike again in upcoming clashes.

Best goal and assist Premier League combos

Anthony Elanga – Chris Wood – 12/1

Since Nuno Espirito Santo’s appointment at Nottingham Forest in December, Chris Wood has rediscovered his scoring form. The New Zealand international has scored five Premier League goals in five games since Espirito Santo replaced Steve Cooper in the City Ground dugout.

Anthony Elanga has been the man teeing up Wood, as the winger has assisted his Forest teammate twice in the last three Premier League matches.

As a result, Wood and Elanga have the second-best goals and assists partnership in the Premier League this season, with four in total. The pair will be looking to strike again in their upcoming trip to Bournemouth – whom Wood scored against in the reverse fixture in December.

Bukayo Saka – Leandro Trossard

Arsenal’s attacking duo of Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard have combined three times in the Premier League this season.

Saka has caused havoc amongst opposition defences throughout the campaign. The England international has the second-most league assists this season, setting up seven goals.

Trossard has also proven his goal threat with four goals in seven Premier League starts. The Belgian was also back on the scoresheet in the 5-0 demolition of Crystal Palace at the Emirates two weeks ago.

The last Saka assist to Trossard came in the Gunners’ 3-1 home win over Burnley in November. But confidence will be high after the couple have made three goal contributions between them in their last two matches.

Phil Foen – Rodri

Phil Foden and Rodri reignited their partnership in Man City’s 3-1 victory over Burnley on Wednesday. Foden set up his Spanish teammate for the third time this season as the Citizens cruised to a one-sided win over the Clarets.

It was the second time in four matches where Foden assisted Rodri to score. The City pair also combined in the 2-0 home win over Sheffield United in December.

Pep Guardiola’s side take on a Brentford side that has shipped 18 goals in their last seven matches on Monday. As a result, more joy could come for Foden and Rodri, who have struck up an unlikely attacking partnership this season.

Cole Palmer – Nicolas Jackson – 19/4

Nicolas Jackson is in contention to start for Chelsea against Wolves on Sunday. The Senegalese striker returns from the AFCON finals and will try to strike up his partnership with in-form Cole Palmer again.

Palmer has set up three of Jackson’s Premier League goals this season. The attacking pair last combined when Palmer played a part in all three of Chelsea’s goals in a 3-2 win at Luton as the English forward teed up Jackson for a decisive third.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have also been free-flowing at Stamford Bridge recently, with 13 scored in their last five at home. Therefore, the Palmer-Jackson link-up could rejuvenate again with the Blues’ upcoming clash against Wolves.

Pablo Sarabia – Mario Lemina  – 16/1

The Wolves partnership of Pablo Sarabia and Mario Lemina will hope to upset Chelsea in West London this weekend.

There is a good chance the in-form duo could combine against the Blues too, with Sarabia setting up Lemina three times this season.

Two of these combinations have come in Wolves' last four Premier League matches as Sarabia assisted Lemina in Wanderers’ 4-1 thrashing of Brentford. The midfielders also combined in December when Wolves stunned Chelsea with a 2-1 Christmas Eve win at Molineux.

Wanderers’ dynamic duo are building a strong bond in the attacking areas and they can cause Chelsea problems again on Sunday.
