Arsenal vs Manchester City H2H: Electric Erling to hurt Arteta again

The next Arsenal vs Manchester City H2H takes place at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League (PL) on Sunday, with both teams looking to rectify recent defeats. The Gunners lost their unbeaten start to the season by going down 2-1 at RC Lens in the UEFA Champions League, while City lost their first PL game of the campaign 2-1 at Wolves last weekend.

Arsenal vs Manchester City H2H Record

Arsenal and Man City have played each other 209 times in their history, with the Gunners coming out on top for wins:

  • Arsenal Wins: 98
  • Draws: 45
  • Man City Wins: 65

However, City have certainly had the better of the North Londoners in recent years, despite Arsenal winning the Community Shield. Indeed, the Sky Blues have won the last 12 PL meetings, and thrashed the Gunners 3-0 in the 2017/18 League Cup final.

Last time out…

Arsenal beat Man City 4-1 on penalties in the Community Shield in August, after Leandro Trossard's last-minute goal cancelled out now-Chelsea winger Cole Palmer's opener. The win was the Gunners' first over City since 2020, and Arteta's first over Pep Guardiola since leaving his previous role as his assistant.

It potentially gives the manager and his team a psychological boost going into Sunday's clash, knowing that they can beat the treble-winners on their day.

Arsenal vs Man City H2H: Potential MVP

With key players Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri out, City will once rely on Erling Haaland to produce the magic to get a result at Arsenal.

The Norwegian has not always hit the same heights as last season, but he still boasts eight goals in seven PL matches. He scored in both league victories for City against the Gunners last term, and also produced two assists in their 4-1 thumping at the Etihad Stadium – putting them in the driving seat for the title.

In the previous campaign, Haaland was instrumental in helping City win the treble, scoring a staggering 52 times in 53 games in all competitions, and is one of the favourites to win the Ballon d'Or.

Nonetheless, he is one of the best players in the world, and can give any team problems on any given day.

Arsenal: Players in focus

David Raya – Is he reliable?

Raya's mistake that led to Lens' opening goal on Tuesday night puts him in the spotlight for this clash, and he will want to prove that he is still Arteta's number one.

Declan Rice – The man for the occasion

Rice has already shown he can perform in big games, notably scoring in Arsenal's 3-1 PL win over Manchester United, and was bought precisely to help lift the Gunners to the title.

Leandro Trossard – Big opportunity

With Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli injury doubts, Trossard needs to step up, and has already scored against City this season.

Man City: Players in focus

Julian Alvarez – A bright spark

Alvarez has been a bright spark for City this season, with three goals and four assists in the league, including netting against Wolves.

Mateo Kovacic – Big boots to fill

With Rodri suspended, Kovacic could be asked to play the defensive midfield role, and could struggle to live up to expectations.

Erling Haaland – Danger man

Haaland is the danger man as ever for City, and will want revenge for their Community Shield defeat.

Final Prediction

Arsenal have not been entirely convincing at home, with no clean sheets and six goals conceded in the league. However, City's confidence would have been dented by the loss to Wolves, coupled up with going out to Newcastle United 1-0 in the Carabao Cup.

If both sides are in the title race come the end of the campaign, this is a game that neither will want to lose. As such, we could see a cagey draw.

We're saying a 1-1 draw with Haaland to score.
