Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (2/5): No source information casts doubt
Man Utd have made a new left-back a priority in January, and new boss Ruben Amorim is reportedly interested in Wolves‘ Rayan Ait-Nouri.
This news comes from The Sun, who have given no information about their source, but with United's links to many other left-backs, it would not be much of a surprise if this rumour was true.
Value (3/5): Wolves still have time to sell
With three transfer windows between now and Ait-Nouri's contract expiring, Wolves still have time to get a good price for a full-back who has been a key part of their defence and attack in recent times.
His importance means they will not sell him cheap, and United will be expected to fork out much more than the €35 million Transfermarkt valuation, which has only been rising for over a year.
Suitability (5/5): A great fit for an Amorim team
Ait-Nouri lined up on the left side of a back three in Wolves' 4-1 win over Fulham at the weekend, while he has also been deployed on the left-wing of a midfield four and as a wing-back.
He will therefore be well-suited to Amorim's 3-4-3 formation, with his high energy attacking play and Premier League experience both big plusses.
Upgrade? (5/5): Left-backs have been left back
United's 1-1 draw with Ipswich was a reality check for Amorim, with Luke Shaw struggling with the intensity of the game. That is hardly surprising, given that the 34 minutes Shaw played was the first time a recognised left-back featured for the Red Devils in the Premier League this season.
Is Ait-Nouri, with 12 games, three goals and two assists this season an upgrade on Shaw and Tyrell Malacia? You bet.
Logic (4/5): Ait-Nouri can wave goodbye to basement battle
Despite a top performance at the weekend, Wolves look to have a season of struggles ahead of them, and now might be the time for Ait-Nouri to jump ship to one of the Premier League giants, before he ends up a Championship player.
Whisper+ verdict: 19/25
There's a chance there is little meat in this rumour, which would be bad news for United fans, given that Ait-Nouri seems to be the answer to for their defensive woes and how Amorim wants to set up his side.
