While it has been a difficult return to top-flight football for ADO Den Haag, two draws on the bounce offer signs of improvement for Robin Peter’s men, who will hope their little glimmer of hope can spark a monumental display against champions PSV this weekend.

Yannick Eduardo and Evan Rottier netted quick-fire goals to put Den Haag two goals up after Tyrone Owusu put Telstar in front with a 14th-minute opener, but Owusu netted his second of the game in the 37th minute to help the Hague to a 2-2 draw last Sunday.

However, the result against Telstar now puts Den Haag without a win in their opening eight games of the Eredivisie season, claiming just three points from the first 24 available since making the jump from the second division last term.

Robin Peter’s side picked up 29 wins and two draws from their 38 Eerste Divisie games last season to collect 89 points and end a five-year stint in the second tier suffering relegation back in 2021.

Defensive vulnerability has been the major shortcoming for Den Haag, who have conceded 19 goals in their opening eight matches this season, with only Willem II (23), PEC Zwolle (21), Sparta Rotterdam (20) and Utrecht (25) shipping more.

On the other hand, PSV Eindhoven failed to get off the mark in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, when they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in matchday two at the Red Bull Arena.

It was a dreadful display on the road for Boeren, with Ivan Perisic missing his 19th-minute penalty leading up to Brajan Gruda finding the back of the net in the 75th minute to hand Leipzig the winner.

Back home, PSV suffered their first defeat of the season on September 20 when they were beaten 3-2 by Twente at De Grolsch Veste, but they responded last Friday with a 2-0 victory over Heerenveen thanks to a first-half strike from Guus Til and Marcus Linday’s 68th-minute own goal.

Peter Bosz’s men have kicked off the season with six wins and one draw from the first eight games of their third consecutive title defence to collect 19 points and sit second in the table, level on points with third-placed AZ Alkmaar and just one behind leaders Feyenoord.

PSV will be backing themselves to get the job done this weekend when they go up against an opposing side who are without a win in their last 21 meetings, losing 17 games and claiming four draws since a 1-0 victory in February 2011.

Whispers’ prediction: ADO Den Haag 1-3 PSV Eindhoven

Meetings between PSV Eindhoven and Den Hag have often served up fireworks with plenty of goalmouth action in the past, and over 2.5 goals at 1/4 (1.25) is our first pick of the game – a tempting bet to back with our Ladbrokes bonus code.

Given the gap in quality and experience between the two sides, PSV are the bookmakers’ clear favourites to come away with all three points at 1/4 (1.25), and we are siding with the bookies here.

Bosz’s men have led at half time in five of their last seven games against Den Haag, and our third pick of the game is HT/FT – 1/1 at 18/25 (1.72), while the correct score market has a correct score of 1-3 at 9/1 (10.00).
