The 2026 World Cup Group B first-round matches got off to a dramatic start as co-host Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Switzerland and Qatar all settled for a draw in the first group match.

However, in the second round, the Group B table was reshaped as Canada and Switzerland got their first victory, handing Bosnia and Qatar heavy defeats.

Following the first two rounds of games, Canada overtook Switzerland to go top of the table on goal difference, with both teams having the same points.

Bosnia and Qatar, on the other hand, found themselves in third and fourth, respectively, having one point each, after their humiliating second-round performances.

Football Whispers breaks down Group B in full, including fixtures, latest odds and predictions.

2026 World Cup Group B prediction and betting angles

Canada

Canada entered their second consecutive World Cup, having lost only twice in the past year and recording notable wins over Romania and Wales.

Despite their impressive form, they were unable to break down Bosnia and Herzegovina in their opening Group B game.

The co-host will be beating themselves up for not starting their 2026 World Cup opening game with a win, having settled for a 1-1 draw.

However, in their second game they became unstoppable against Qatar, handing the 2022 host a humiliating 6-0 defeat to go top of Group B.

Following the victory, Canada took a step towards reaching their first knockout stage, with the bookmakers tipping them to win their group.

Switzerland

Switzerland entered their sixth straight World Cup, having reached the knockout stages in each of the last three editions.

They qualified unbeaten, finishing above Kosovo and Sweden, and enjoyed a strong showing at Euro 2024, reaching the quarter-finals.

However, their 2026 World Cup campaign started with an unexpected 1-1 draw against Qatar, with an injury-time equaliser snatching the three points from them.

In the second game in the group, they came out blazing hot against Bosnia, defeating them 4-1 and taking a step closer to the knockout phase.

The victory puts them in a comfortable position heading into the third round, and the bookmakers see them as second favourites to make it to the round of 32.

Bosnia

Bosnia qualified through the playoffs, defeating Wales and then Italy – both via penalty shootouts – to reach only their second World Cup.

They head into the tournament as one of the lowest-rated teams (64th), but they showed resilience in their opening game, securing a 1-1 draw against co-host Canada.

With their performance in the opening game, they fancied their chances of causing an upset or two in Group B and hope they can sneak into the knockout phase.

However, they were forced to face reality after losing badly to Switzerland (4-1) in their second game, reducing their chances of qualifying.

They have a slim chance to qualify, according to the bookmakers, but to advance to the round of 32, they will need to perform exceptionally in their third game.

Qatar

Qatar returned to the World Cup after qualifying through the AFC pathway, finishing ahead of the UAE and Oman in the fourth round of qualifying.

Their 2026 World Cup campaign started well, having caused an upset by holding Switzerland to a 1-1 draw in their opening game.

However, they failed to build on their opening game and instead got thrashed 6-0 by Canada in the second round.

The loss puts them in a precarious position, with the bookmakers giving them a very slim chance to make it to the knockout stage.

Final Group B prediction

  1. Switzerland
  2. Canada
  3. Bosnia
  4. Qatar

Group B best bets

  • Canada to win Group B (8/15)
  • Switzerland to qualify (1/1000)

Canada have overtaken Switzerland as the clear favourite to top Group B after their massive win against Qatar, while Switzerland move into second spot despite their comfortable victory over Bosnia.
