West Ham will take on Chelsea on Friday, 22 August, as the second round of 2025/26 Premier League fixtures gets underway.
The hosts will be looking for a response following their humiliating 3-0 defeat to Sunderland on the opening weekend.
Chelsea are also searching for their first win of the season, after drawing at home with Crystal Palace last Sunday.

West Ham vs Chelsea prediction: The Blues to get the win
Key Stats
- Chelsea have won two of their last three matches against West Ham by a margin of two goals or more.
- Chelsea have won three of their last five matches away from Stamford Bridge by a margin of two goals or more.
- Chelsea didn't concede a goal on the opening weekend, while West Ham didn't score a goal.
Correct score prediction: West Ham 0-2 Chelsea
If alarm bells weren't ringing over the summer, then they are now in East London after West Ham's 3-0 defeat to Sunderland. The Hammers look every inch like relegation candidates, and if Bowen isn't firing, then it's hard to see where goals are going to come from. Chelsea, meanwhile, should now have shaken off the CWC cobwebs.
Pre-game odds and win probability: Chelsea start as favourites
- HOME: 18/5 (4.60) – 21.7%
- DRAW: 3/1 (4.00) – 25%
- AWAY: 4/6 (1.67) – 60%
*odds from Ladbrokes, subject to change
The West Ham vs Chelsea odds are weighted in favour of the visitors, so anything other than all three points for Chelsea on Friday night would be a shock. Ladbrokes have given West Ham just a 21.7% chance of winning on home soil, while Chelsea have been given a 60% chance of victory.

West Ham preview: Issues all over the pitch
If Graham Potter is to succeed at West Ham, he will need to learn from his mistakes, and that should mean the former Chelsea boss changes his midfield entirely for this one by bringing in Tomas Soucek and Edson Alvarez from the start. Other changes could see Callum Wilson make his first start for the club.
Predicted lineup: Hermansen (GK), Todibo, Kilman, Aguerd, Wan-Bissaka, Soucek, Alvarez, Diouf, Bowen, Wilson, Paqueta

Chelsea preview: Question marks at the back
Injuries to Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Benoit Badiashile have left Chelsea short at the back so youngster Josh Acheampong could start again on Friday. At the other end of the pitch, Nicolas Jackson is available once again after serving a three-match ban, but he is unlikely to feature ahead of a potential move away from Stamford Bridge.
Predicted lineup: Sanchez (GK), James, Acheampong, Chalobah, Cucurella, Enzo, Caicedo, Neto, Palmer, Estevao, Pedro

Player to watch: Cole Palmer

Cole Palmer is unquestionably a talented player, but the Chelsea playmaker has now gone 17 Premier League matches without scoring a goal from open play. Given the talent he now has around him in attacking areas, he should, in theory, have plenty of chances to put this stat to bed on Friday night against a vulnerable West Ham defence.
