🔥 Our Hot tip

Hoffenheim to win or draw and over 2.5

Hoffenheim are the favourites based on form and recent meetings, but we expect Bremen to put up a fight, finding the net as well.

Werder Bremen welcome Hoffenheim to the Weserstadion on Saturday for their first Bundesliga game of 2026, knowing that momentum, belief and patience are all in short supply, while the visitors arrive firmly focused on turning a strong first half of the campaign into a genuine European push.

Werder Bremen preview: A fragile restart

The winter break arrived at a useful moment for Werder Bremen, whose form had collapsed alarmingly towards the end of 2025.

Two draws and three defeats from their last five league matches left them among the most out-of-form sides in the division, dragging them away from the European conversation they once flirted with.

Goals have been particularly hard to come by, with Horst Steffen’s side drawing blanks in three recent outings.

A goalless friendly against St. Pauli during the break did little to ease concerns, and pressure is quietly beginning to mount on the Werder bench.

Saturday’s fixture also brings a psychological hurdle. Since returning to the Bundesliga in 2022, Werder have yet to win their first league match after the winter break, a trend they will be desperate to end in front of their home supporters.

Bremen will be without Francis Agu, who is sidelined with an ankle injury, and Victor Boniface, who continues to recover from a knee problem.

Matthias Weiser is nursing a knee injury, while Maximilian Wober is sidelined with a muscle problem. Additionally, Samuel Mbangula is dealing with a knock and is considered questionable for the fixture due to fitness concerns.

Predicted lineup: Hein; Sugawara, Pieper, Coulibaly, Friedl; Lynen, Stage; Puertas, Schmid, Grull; Njinmah

Werder Bremen’s last five results

  • 04.01.26 – St. Pauli 0-0 Werder Bremen
  • 20.12.25 – Augsburg 0-0 Werder Bremen
  • 14.12.25 – Werder Bremen 0-4 Stuttgart
  • 07.12.25 – Hamburger SV 3-2 Werder Bremen
  • 29.11.25 – Werder Bremen 1-1 FC Koln

Hoffenheim preview: Calm confidence and clear targets

Hoffenheim return to action with a sense of calm purpose. Sitting fifth at the halfway point, they are enjoying one of their strongest Bundesliga campaigns in recent memory, having surpassed their current points tally at this stage only once before.

Away from home, Christian Ilzer’s side have been particularly impressive, with only Bayern Munich collecting more points on the road so far this season. That resilience and efficiency could prove decisive against a Werder team searching for stability.

While Hoffenheim’s post-winter-break record is not flawless, having lost their first match after the break in six of the last seven seasons, this feels like a prime opportunity to buck that trend, especially given their excellent historical record at the Weserstadion.

Meanwhile, Alban Hajdari is suspended for accumulation of yellow cards, while Daichi Machida is ruled out with a knee injury, while Boubacar Touré is also unavailable.

Predicted lineup: Baumann; Coufal, Hranac, Kabak, Bernardo; Promel, Avdullahu, Burger; Asllani; Lemperle, Kramaric

Hoffenheim’s last five results

  • 20.12.25 – Stuttgart 0-0 Hoffenheim
  • 13.12.25 – Hoffenheim 4-1 Hamburger SV
  • 07.12.25 – Dortmund 2-0 Hoffenheim
  • 29.11.25 – Hoffenheim 3-0 Augsburg
  • 21.11.25 – Mainz 1-1 Hoffenheim

Player to watch: Fisnik Asllani

Asllani has been in fine form for Hoffenheim this season, contributing six goals and two assists. His movement and eye for goal make him a constant threat, and he will be key in breaking down Bremen’s defence.
