Ten-man Werder Bremen were dealt a 3-1 blow at RheinEenergieStadion by FC Koln, leaving the visitors languishing at the edge of the relegation zone.

The Green-Whites sit only three points above the relegation playoff spot held by St. Pauli. A victory here is essential if they are to increase their chances of survival.

However, Bremen are in poor form at the moment, losing six of their last 10 outings. They also lost the reverse fixture 3-2 at Volksparkstadion in December 2025.

Daniel Thioune has a long injury lost on his hands. Some of the missing players include Victor Boniface, Karl Hein, Marco Friedl, Mitchell Weiser and Julian Malatini.

Hamburg have five players missing. Luka Vuskovic, Alexander Rossing-Lelesiit, Yussuf Poulsen, Jean Dompe and Sambi Lokonga are all absentees.

In comparison, the visitors are relatively comfortable in the Bundesliga standings. However, a defeat here would see Werder Bremen end up level on 31 points with them.

Hamburg are low on morale as well. Stuttgart 4-0 hammering was their fourth winless game in five outings, having also fallen to Borussia Dortmund recently.

Another win in the Nordderby would confirm their first top-flight league double over their northern rivals in a decade.

Whispers Predicts: Werder Bremen 1-1 Hamburg

The two teams haven’t played out a draw a since September 2017. Given their respective forms, a cagey contest is expected in this fiery derby clash. Backing them Draw at 13/5 offers substantial dividends.

Hamburg have scored exactly one goal in three of their last four outings, while Werder have failed to score more than one in as many games. Their lack of attacking prowess indicates a low-scoring affair. Perhaps Under 2.5 total goals at 11/10 is a realistic scenario.

Bremen’s last five goals were all scored after the hour mark. Hamburg have been relatively quiet after the break. Backing Bremen to win the second half at 13/10 with their home crowd behind them makes sense.

At 8/13, BTTS – Yes also carries weight. The Nordderby is always anticipated to offer entertainment. Both teams tend to score often when they meet one another.
