Werder Bremen achieved their main objective for the season by securing Bundesliga survival, even if recent form has been disappointing.

Daniel Thioune’s side have lost four of their last six league matches since the beginning of April, including a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Hoffenheim last weekend.

Despite that downturn, avoiding relegation danger heading into the final day is more than enough achievement for the club already.

The bigger issue for Bremen has been their inability to compete consistently against stronger opposition. They are still without a victory against teams currently in the Bundesliga’s top half this season, a statistic that does not inspire much confidence ahead of Dortmund’s visit.

The hosts also have several injury and suspension concerns, with Yukinari Sugawara being suspended after his red card against Hoffenheim, while Julian Malatini and Mitchell Weiser remain sidelined with long-term injuries.

Arsenal loanee Karl Hein has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after undergoing hand surgery, and Keke Topp continues his recovery from a cruciate ligament tear.

Leonardo Bittencourt is considered a major doubt because of an ongoing thigh problem, while young defender Mick Schmetgens will face a late fitness test after missing training due to a foot issue.

Dortmund, meanwhile, are aiming to finish another solid Bundesliga season with a victory after coming from behind to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 last weekend.

Niko Kovac’s men may once again finish behind Bayern Munich, but there have still been encouraging signs during the campaign, particularly if they can finish with their highest points tally since the 2018-19 season.

Their recent form has been mixed, however, with only two wins from the last five league matches. Dortmund have also lost back-to-back away fixtures against Hoffenheim and Borussia Monchengladbach, though the defeat to Gladbach was their only away loss against a current bottom-half side all season.

The visitors will be without Emre Can, who is sidelined with a knee injury, while Ramy Bensebaini remains doubtful because of a foot problem.

Whispers predicts: Werder Bremen 1-2 Dortmund

Bremen no longer have anything substantial riding on this fixture and their struggles against stronger opponents throughout the campaign remain difficult to ignore. Backing Dortmund to win at 19/20 is good value.

Dortmund have occasionally looked vulnerable away from home, but they still possess superior attacking quality and should have enough to edge a competitive contest on the final day, though we believe both teams will score. This is priced at 2/5.

📈 Werder Bremen vs Borussia Dortmund — Whispers' Tips

> Match result – Dortmund to win at 19/20 | Likelihood: Likely
