Walsall vs Swindon Town predictions: A high-scoring affair

Key stats

  • At least three goals were scored in four of Walsall's last five games.
  • Swindon's last five matches went above the 2.5-goal line.
  • Walsall have opened the scoring in five consecutive games.

Correct score prediction: Walsall 3-1 Swindon

Walsall were by far the best team in League Two in the first half of last season. Although they had some struggles toward the end of the campaign, the Saddlers were almost promoted to League One, losing in the playoff final.

Swindon Town, on the other hand, were a mid-table team in League Two last season. They were unimpressive on the road, winning only six of 23 away games.

It is worth mentioning that Walsall are in high spirits after winning four of five friendly matches, most notably a shocking 1-0 victory over Aston Villa a couple of weeks ago.

Given their home advantage, we believe that Walsall will claim all the spoils at the end of this match.

Walsall preview: Long list of summer acquisitions

Walsall suffered a devastating end to their 2024-25 EFL League Two campaign. After being runaway leaders at some point, they had a bad run of games and ultimately finished in the playoff spots, which they lost to Wimbledon in the final.

Looking to end their stay in League Two, which stretches back to 2019, the Saddlers recruited 11 players (three loanees), with the objective of gaining promotion to EFL League One at the end of the season.

Centre-back Harry Williams will be out of action until around December due to Achilles heel injury.

Predicted lineup: Simkin (GK), Allen, Williams, Okagbue, Asiimwe, Chang, Stirk, Gordon, Jellis, Hall & Matt.

Swindon Town preview: A clean bill of health

Swindon Town finished eight points outside of the playoff positions last season in League Two, and the club will push for a better outing this time, with gaining promotion a season objective for the County Ground outfit.

The Robins enjoyed a good preseason tour, winning four games and losing one. They arrive at the new season in fine form and are poised for a brilliant start to the campaign.

About eleven players, including two loan arrivals, were welcomed to the County Ground this transfer window. A couple of them will look to make their debuts on Saturday.

Predicted lineup: Ripley (GK), Kirkman, Wright, Delaney, Kilkenny, Uwakwe, Khan, Oldaker, Ameen, Butterworth & Smith.
