Team Information, Preview, and Vitoria Guimaraes vs Middlesbrough Lineups
Vitoria Guimaraes
The financial issues have kept the Portuguese team at bay for some time, but they still made sure some new players arrive during the opening of the transfer window this summer. Right-back Ze Carlos is their biggest signing coming over from Varzim. The club sold Falaye Sacko to Montpellier. There are few players that have returned to the club after their loan spells have been completed. One of those players is Toni Borevkovic who spent the last season in Hajduk Split. The Croatia side didn't want to make this deal a permanent one.
Provisional lineup: Biai, Bamba, Amaro, Mangas, Ze Carlos, Manu, Andre, T. Silva, Jota, Luz, A. Silva.
Middlesbrough
The English side will once again play in the Championship, or the second tier league in England after failing to qualify for the Premier League. The club brought only one player thus far this summer with Alex Gilbert joining on a free transfer from Brentford's reserve team. There is, however, a cleaning of the locker room period going on at the moment as some of the players have been released without being offered a new deal. Joe Lumley, Grant Hall, Darnell Fisher, and Luke Daniels are no longer with the club. The ambition is always to fight for promotion and that is the mindset in this preparation stage.
Provisional lineup: Roberts, McNair, Clarke, Bola, Smith, Payero, Hackney, Crooks, McGree, Gilbert, Akpom.
Player to Watch: Andre Silva
The Brazilian center-forward arrived in Vitoria last summer but failed to make an immediate impact after playing in lower-division football. However, he is expected to become more prominent in the team this season. Last year Silva went on to score six goals in 32 matches.
His goalscoring record was much better when playing for FC Arouca with 17 goals in 67 matches on the record. He was raised in Rio Ave's youth system, but never got a real chance to play for the senior team. Silva has become one of the most valuable assets for Vitoria in the financial sense and his goalscoring record needs to be improved to warrant that assessment.
