USMNT Players Abroad 2024: Our picks

6. Ricardo Pepi – PSV

Ricardo Pepi is just 21 years of age and is part of a new golden generation coming through the USMNT. The striker scored six goals in 17 appearances at U17 level, and in 28 senior caps, he has netted 10 times.

Pepi recently played in his first Copa America as the USA hosted, but the USMNT as a whole were largely underwhelming, as they crashed out at the group stage. It was a different story at club level though as Pepi helped PSV win the Eredivisie, scoring seven goals and supplying a further two assists in 27 league games, and the youngster may have an even bigger impact in the upcoming 2024/25 season.

5. Timothy Weah – Juventus

Timothy Weah is the son of legendary footballer George Weah, who won the Ballon d'Or in 1995. He famously represented Liberia at international level, but his son has opted to play for the USMNT.

Indeed, the 24-year-old has won 41 senior caps, scoring six times and making five assists, and netted in the USA's opening group stage match against Bolivia in the recent Copa America. At club level, Weah has played for some of the top teams in Europe including Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, but has yet to really settle down somewhere and found his home.

4. Folarin Balogun – Monaco

Folarin Balogun represented England at youth level, but now plays for the USMNT. The striker has netted five times in 15 senior caps, including twice in the recent Copa America.

After an impressive loan spell at Reims in the 2022/23 season, where he scored 21 goals in Ligue 1, Balogun earned a big-money move from Arsenal to AS Monaco. In his debut campaign, he scored eight times and produced another seven assists in 32 appearances over all competitions.

3. Weston McKennie – Juventus

Weston McKennie features third in our rankings as he has been the anchor in the USMNT's midfield over the years. Indeed, the 25-year-old has already amassed 56 senior caps for his country, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists.

McKennie has won three domestic trophies at Juventus, but the Serie A title still eludes him. With some significant investment in this summer transfer window, the Old Lady's time may come in the next campaign.

2. Christian Pulisic – AC Milan

It is safe to say that Christian Pulisic is one of the most gifted USMNT players of his generation, as he showed plenty of promise at Borussia Dortmund before earning a big-money move to Chelsea, and he now plays for AC Milan. He is yet to win a major trophy in Italy, but did lift the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea in 2020/21, and also won a domestic cup with Dortmund.

Pulisic has been named the USMNT's Footballer of the Year three times, and is the captain of his country at the age of just 25. In 71 senior caps, he has netted no fewer than 30 times, and has also produced 18 assists.

1. Giovanni Reyna – Borussia Dortmund

Our top USMNT player abroad in 2024 goes to Giovanni Reyna. The 21-year-old boasts plenty of flair and often drifts past opponents with his dribbling ability. which he has shown off plenty of times at both club and international level.

He has won the CONCACAF Nations League three times with the USMNT, and in 31 senior caps, he has scored eight goals and made five assists. Reyna showed signs of early promise at Borussia Dortmund, but a loan move to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League last season suggested that he had lost his way a bit. Nonetheless, he is still an excellent footballer with his best years still ahead of him.
