Tranmere and Rochdale will kick off their competitive campaigns on Saturday, when they meet at Prenton Park in the EFL Cup Preliminary Round.
The visitors earned promotion through the National League playoffs last time around to join their hosts in League Two for the 2026-27 term.

Tranmere will kick off their 2026-27 season on Saturday with the hopes of reaching the EFL Cup first round, having entered at that stage last year and dropped out at the hands of Burton Albion.
They came into the new term on the back of a tough campaign in League Two last time around, finishing 21st on 41 points, just two clear of the relegation zone, having lost 25 of those matches while winning 10.
Their struggles largely came at Prenton Park, as their 23 home outings produced just four wins and 13 losses with only relegated Harrogate Town picking up fewer home points.
Pete Wild would depart on the completion of that term, with the Merseyside outfit staying up despite winning just one of their last 15 games, and they have since turned to Darrell Clarke, who began his tenure in a 2-0 friendly victory over Blackpool in mid-July.
Tranmere Rovers will now turn their focus to the new term and kick off at the weekend, having seen an abundance of squad changes over the summer with Cameron Norman, Omari Patrick, Harvey Saunders and Kristian Dennis among those to depart while Clarke has been able to add the likes of Joel Senior, Tom Ince, Tom Conlon and Jordan Davies alongside newest arrival Harrison Male, who starred for York City last season as they pipped the visitors to the National League title.
Their opponents, meanwhile, begin life back as an EFL club at the weekend on the back of a dramatic 2025-26 term.
Rochdale found themselves fighting for the National League's solitary automatic promotion spot throughout the entire campaign with York City and looked set to snatch it in a final-day clash between the two clubs thanks to a 95th-minute goal to go 1-0 up, only for the visitors to score 13 minutes into injury time and condemn them to the playoffs.
The Greater Manchester side then got the better of Scunthorpe United to book a place in the final at Wembley, before equalising deep into injury time of the final in an eventual 2-2 draw through Emmanuel Dieseruvwe, forcing extra time and an eventual penalty shootout which the Dale won to seal their return to the fourth tier.
It has not been smooth sailing since, though, failing to win any of their four friendlies after promotion-winning manager Jimmy McNulty departed alongside players Kyron Gordon, Aidan Barlow, Tarryn Allarakhia and Connor McBride, with Ian Watson now at the helm having added Sam Waller to the fold to replace last season's loan goalkeeper Oliver Whatmuff alongside Sam Sherring, Zain Silcott-Duberry, Laurence Maguire and Cian Hayes.
Rochdale will now bid to get up and running under Watson and back as a League Two club with a cup win on Saturday before beginning the fourth-tier season next week.

Rochdale enjoyed a memorable campaign in the National League last time around, racking up 106 points, and while they have since lost manager McNulty and several important players, they have been able to strengthen and still come up with momentum. We fancy them to kick off with a cup win on Saturday priced at 5/4 (2.25).
Emmanuel Dieseruvwe starred for the Dale in 2025-26, firing them to promotion with 27 goals in 42 league matches including the playoff final. He will remain their focal point on promotion and is priced at 6/4 (2.50) to score anytime.
Tranmere Rovers will hope for a fresh start under new management, but after a singular friendly and a season to forget last time around, we would not be surprised to see them slow out the blocks and fancy Both Teams to Score – No at 19/20 (1.95).
