Real Madrid are reportedly interested in Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Micky van de Ven as they look to strengthen their defence ahead of next season.

While Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate appears to be the main target for Los Blancos, with the Frenchman approaching the final year of his contract, other options are also being considered. William Saliba has been linked, as has Van de Ven.

Van de Ven considered as backup option

The Dutch defender could serve as a Plan B for Real Madrid behind Konate. Standing at 1.93 metres tall, Van de Ven is known for his pace and versatility, being capable of playing at both centre-back and left-back. Tottenham are reportedly valuing the 23-year-old at €80m (£68.5m).

According to TBR Football, news of Real Madrid’s interest has reached Tottenham, who consider Van de Ven a key part of both their present and future. The club are now planning to more than double his current salary in a bid to convince him to stay.

Tottenham preparing improved contract offer

Van de Ven, who is under contract at Spurs until June 2029, is currently earning around £49,000 per week. The proposed new deal could see his wages rise to more than £98,000 per week, according to British media reports.

Tottenham believe the centre-back deserves a new contract reflecting his status at the club, having become a key figure in Ange Postecoglou’s defence since his arrival from Wolfsburg in 2023.

In addition to Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Chelsea are also believed to be admirers of the Netherlands international.
