Eight seasons after they were relegated from the Premier League, during which they fell all the way down to League One at one point, Sunderland are back in the top flight.
They achieved this after an exciting playoff run, culminating in a winner in the 95th minute of the playoff final at Wembley, against the favoured Sheffield United.
The Black Cats are certainly excited to be back in the Premier League, but their team does not seem competitive enough, at least not as it currently stands. So, we should see some new faces at the Stadium of Light after the 2025 summer transfer window.
We will keep track of all Sunderland's new signings and departures in this article, so make sure to check for updates regularly. Also, feel free to check out our dedicated Sunderland transfer targets page, where we bring all of the latest Black Cats transfer rumours all in one place.

Sunderland new signings Summer 2025
Enzo Le Fee (Roma)
The 25-year-old French midfielder signed for Roma just last summer, but he notched only six appearances in Serie A in the first half of the season, after which he was loaned out to Sunderland. With the Black Cats, Enzo Le Fee had a much bigger role, starting in 25 games since arriving at the club in January.
After the play-off final, Sunderland decided to trigger the buy clause to make Le Fee's transfer permanent for around £19m, which is the same that Roma paid for Le Fee to Rennes last summer.
Habib Diarra (Strasbourg)
Sunderland completed the club-record signing of Habib Diarra for a reported £30m. The 21-year-old joined from Strasbourg on a five-year deal.
Noah Sadiki (Union Saint-Gilloise)
Sunderland have signed Noah Sadiki for a reported £17.8m including add-ons. The versatile midfielder joins from Union Saint-Gilloise.
