St Pauli are running out of time to secure their Bundesliga status, with the club needing a solid run of results in their final five games to escape the bottom three.

Alexander Blessin and his men are in the midst of an untimely slump, having picked up just two points during their winless five-match run – a series of results which keeps them within five points of safety.

Last weekend was particularly painful for Kiezkicker, as their home clash with league leaders Bayern Munich ended in a 5-0 demolition.

Another concern for the hosts is their toothless nature in front of goal, with Blessin’s men managing just two goals across their last five matches and 25 throughout the entire league season – the lowest tally in the competition.

St Pauli’s chances on Friday will not be improved with the absence of Japan international Joel Fujita, who picked up his fifth yellow card last weekend and earned himself a suspension.

On top of that, the hosts are still missing Ricky-Jade Jones, James Sands and Eric Smith.

Koln are also missing a couple of names ahead of Friday’s match, with Timo Hubers and Luca Kilian remaining on the sidelines with knee injuries.

The Billy Goats have not been hampered by too many injuries in recent weeks, and their form has also seen an upswing under the stewardship of interim boss Rene Wagner.

Koln are unbeaten in four successive matches, picking up six points and scoring nine goals during this run.

Wagner’s men are now just a couple of big wins away from securing their Bundesliga status for next season, with the club currently sitting five points clear of St Pauli and just three points behind mid-table clubs such as Augsburg and Mainz.

Koln will also be buoyed by their impressive head-to-head record against St Pauli, which has seen them go seven games unbeaten – a run that includes five victories.

Whispers predicts: St Pauli 1-2 FC Koln

Koln have scored goals for fun in recent times, and we are backing them to continue that trend away in Hamburg.

The Billy Goats are priced at 7/4 to score over 1.5 goals, which is a bet that has landed in their last three matches.

Backing the visitors to win the match also comes at a tasty 17/10 price, which is a smart play considering their current momentum and head-to-head dominance.

If you are looking for even more value, you could try your hand in the correct score market. Backing a 2-1 win for Koln comes to 9/1 with most major bookmakers.
