🔥 Our Hot tip

Sporting Lisbon to win (-2 handicap)

Sporting have won three of their five league matches by a margin of three goals or more.

Sporting Lisbon will take on AVS in the Primeira Liga on Sunday, 22 September with the hosts looking to continue their blistering start to the new season.

Sporting have won all six of their competitive matches this season with five of them coming in the league and the other one coming in the Champions League this week.

AVS haven't had a bad start to the season, either, and are currently sitting on seven points after five games.

As part of our latest round of Primeira Liga betting tips, here is our Sporting Lisbon vs AVS prediction.

Sporting Lisbon vs AVS prediction: Sporting to carry on as normal

Key Stats

  • Sporting Lisbon have scored three goals or more in four of their five league matches this season.
  • AVS have lost both of their away matches so far this season.
  • Viktor Gyokeres has scored nine goals in six matches for Sporting Lisbon this season.

Correct score prediction: Sporting Lisbon 3-0 AVS

Sporting Lisbon have been electric so far and goals haven't been an issue at all. AVS have struggled on the road, losing both of their previous league away matches and conceding six goals in the process. AVS could get on the scoresheet but Sporting have kept a clean sheet in their last four matches so it feels unlikely.

Pre-game odds and win probability: AVS given little chance

  • HOME: 1/12 (1.08) – 92.3%
  • DRAW: 10/1(11.00) – 9.1%
  • AWAY: 25/1 (26.00) – 3.8%

*odds from Ladbrokes, subject to change

Sporting Lisbon are one of the most in-form teams in Europe so it is no surprise that they are the favourites for this clash, but their odds are perhaps a little extreme here. Ladbrokes have given Sporting Lisbon a 92.3% chance of coming out on top on Sunday night while AVS have been given a 3.8% chance of winning.

Most recent H2Hs: A first-ever meeting

The story of AVS is an unusual one and the current version of the club was only officially founded last year. As a result, this is the first time that Sporting Lisbon and AVS have met on the pitch.

Sporting Lisbon preview: A winning machine

There were concerns about Sporting Lisbon when they let a 3-0 lead slip in the Portuguese Super Cup at the start of the season but they have responded with a stunning run of form. Nobody has come close to taking points off them in the league and they won their first Champions League match with ease this week, too.

Predicted lineup: Israel (GK), Quenda, Debast, Reis, Reis, Santos, Braganca, Hjulmand, Santos, Trincao, Goncalves, Gyokeres

AVS preview: Ticking over nicely

After branching off from UD Vilafranquense SAD last season, AVS secured promotion to the Primeira Liga in the first-ever season. They have done well so far, but they are yet to pick up any points on the road and that will need to change if they are to beat the drop.

Predicted lineup: Ochoa (GK), Fonseca, Devenish, Roux, Afonso, Grau, Assuncao, Mercado, Piazon, Kamate, Ribeiro

Player to watch: Viktor Gyokeres

viktor gyokeres

There is perhaps only Erling Haaland in Europe right now that is a more fearsome striker to face than Viktor Gyokeres and Boavista have an almighty task on their hands to keep him quiet.

The big Swede netted more than 40 times in all competitions last season and is sensationally already on course to eclipse those numbers this season. He has scored in every single match he has played in this season and is averaging nearly three goals per two matches played.
