Southampton to win and score over 1.5 goals

Southampton’s energy, structure, and revitalised identity make them overwhelming favourites heading into this match, especially given their explosive recent home form.

Southampton will take on West Brom in the Championship on Tuesday night, looking to make it two wins on the bounce.

The Saints’ revival has been one of the quieter, yet most intriguing, stories in the Championship this season.

After months spent drifting without clear identity or direction, they suddenly find themselves transformed into one of the division’s most energetic and upward-moving sides.

On Tuesday night, they welcome a West Brom team who appear to be travelling in the opposite direction, struggling to rediscover rhythm under a young manager facing his first extended turbulence.

Southampton preview: Eckert’s revival

Tonda Eckert’s arrival has done wonders to Southampton’s season.

What began as a caretaker rescue mission has become something far more meaningful, bringing a tactical reset, a cultural jolt, and a belief system that has reawakened St Mary’s.

Southampton suddenly look like a team that understands what it is trying to be. Their pressing is coordinated, their attacking rotations fluid, and their tempo far more assertive than under previous management.

Their 3-1 win over Birmingham at the weekend was another example of a side playing with conviction, early aggression, intelligent movement, and an unshakeable willingness to attack space.

Once drifting toward a relegation conversation, Southampton now sit 11th and just three points from the playoff line.

Whether this is simply the peak of a new-manager wave or the beginning of a long-term project remains unclear. But at home, the Saints have been irresistible with three straight wins, each time scoring three or more goals.

Adam Armstrong remains a doubt after coming off with a knock against Birmingham. If unavailable, Cameron Archer is expected to lead the line.

Southampton continue to miss Ross Stewart (hamstring), Elias Jelert (thigh), Shea Charles (hamstring), Mads Roerslev (knee), Damion Downs (unspecified) and Welington (ankle).

Predicted lineup: Bazunu, Wood, Harwood-Bellis, Stephens, Fellows, Downes, Aribo, Manning, Scienza, Azaz, Archer

Southampton’s last five results

  • 06.12.25 – Southampton 3-1 Birmingham
  • 29.11.25 – Millwall 3-2 Southampton
  • 25.11.25 – Southampton 3-0 Leicester
  • 22.11.25 – Charlton 1-5 Southampton
  • 08.11.25 – Southampton 3-1 Sheffield Wednesday

West Brom preview: Away blues set to strike again

West Brom are living through a season characterised by frustrating contradictions. Brilliant one weekend, blunt the next – compact at home yet unravelled away.

Under Ryan Mason, the Baggies have shown flashes, but the major issue remains consistency, or, more precisely, the lack of it.

Their 3-1 defeat at QPR was the latest chapter in a painfully repetitive story.

Away form has been a major anchor on their progress, as six straight losses on the road have dragged them down to 16th place, and while they remain mathematically closer to the playoff conversation than to danger, the trajectory is troubling.

Just two wins from their last nine matches paints an accurate picture of a team lacking rhythm.

Charlie Taylor is unavailable due to loan ineligibility, while Nat Phillips returns from suspension and is expected to slot straight back into the XI.

However, Toby Collyer has returned to Manchester United with a calf injury.

Predicted lineup: Wildsmith, Campbell, Mepham, Phillips, Styles, Molumby, Mowatt, Johnston, Grant, Iling-Junior, Heggebo

West Brom’s last five results

  • 06.12.25 – QPR 3-1 West Brom
  • 29.11.25 – West Brom 3-2 Swansea
  • 26.11.25 – West Brom 1-1 Birmingham
  • 22.11.25 – Coventry 3-2 West Brom
  • 08.11.25 – West Brom 2-1 Oxford Utd

Player to Watch: Finn Azaz

Few players have enjoyed the Eckert resurgence as much as Azaz. His creativity between the lines has been crucial, and he is looking to make more direct goal contributions. With West Brom struggling for defensive cohesion, he may be the one to unlock this contest.
