Sebastien Pocognoli has been the man tasked with ushering in a new era of Scottish football, and his first match in charge is a potentially tricky one away against Slovenia.
Pocognoli, who is the first non-Scottish Scotland manager in more than 20 years, has been selected for his front-foot, attacking football, and whether he can implement that style with the players at his disposal will be a fascinating watch.
His predecessor, Steve Clarke, adopted a more pragmatic approach, but it yielded results. Scotland qualified for two European Championships and one World Cup under Clarke, so they are big shoes to fill.
For his first game in charge, Pocognoli is missing some key players, including Scott McTominay, Che Adams and Lawrence Shankland.
As for Slovenia, they will be desperate for a win to not only kickstart this new four-year international cycle but also to bounce back from a recent dismal record on home soil.
The issues goes beyond Bostjan Cesar's tenure as manager, with Slovenia's last home victory coming in June 2025. For their last competitive victory at home, you have to go back to September 2024.
Cesar was only appointed at the beginning of this year, but there are already question marks over his suitability for the role. A strong performance over this extended international break may be needed to save his job.
To make matters worse, Cesar is unable to call upon his star man, Benjamin Sesko, who is staying in Manchester to nurse a shin injury.
