Sheffield Utd vs Plymouth prediction: How long does Wayne Rooney have left in the Plymouth hot seat? – Photo by imago/Graham Hunt

Sheffield Utd vs Plymouth prediction: Razor sharp Blades

Key facts:

  • Table-topping Sheffield United have kept the most clean sheets in the league (13).
  • Plymouth have not kept a clean sheet or won in five games.
  • Sheffield United have scored nine goals in their last five games.

Correct score prediction: Sheffield United 2-0 Plymouth

After a solid start, Wayne Rooney seems to have lost his grip on Plymouth's season, with the Devonshire club sliding all the way down to 23rd.

Sheffield United, on the other hand, are flying under the refreshed management of Chris Wilder, and we doubt they will make for hospitable hosts.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Home advantage

HOME: 1/4  (1.25) – 80.0%
DRAW: 5/1 (6.00) – 16.7%
AWAY: 9/1 (10.00) – 10.0%

*Odds from Ladbrokes, subject to change

The bookmakers' expected winner in this game is Sheffield United. Their odds of 1/4  imply a huge 80% likelihood of victory, an outcome we also foresee.

Sheffield Utd preview: Premier League bound?

Things are looking up in Blades have bounced back from a horrendous 2023/24 Premier League campaign to sit top of the Championship approaching Christmas.

Wilder's men have not scored the most, or conceded fewest, but simply keep finding ways to win games.

Their recent narrow away win at Millwall was testament to that, and we think they'll pick up all three points once again.

Plymouth preview: Destined for the drop?

With just one win in ten games things have gone south for Argyle.

Plymouth have conceded 40 goals already, by some distance the worst in the league.

Rooney may have been a legendary forward, but clearly work is needed to shore up Plymouth's leaky defence.

Predicted lineup: Grimshaw (GK), Szucs, Gibson, Galloway, Ogbeta, Randell, Al-Hajj, Bundu, Wright, Mumba, Gray

Tyrese Campbell has emerged as a top striker this season – Photo by imago/Andrew Yates

Player to watch: Tyrese Campbell

After missing out on the win at Millwall on account of a knock sustained against West Brom, Blades' top scorer Tyrese Campbell will be keen to show why he should be the star man up top once again.

Campbell is battling Kieffer Moore and Rhian Brewster for the number nine slot. With this motivation, and six goals in his last eight appearances, we back Campbell to find the net once again.
