Sheff Wed vs Blackburn prediction: Both sides firing

Key facts:

  • Both side have scored six goals in their last five.
  • Blackburn have kept clean sheets in their last three games.
  • Sheffield Wednesday have only won three of their 10 home games.

Correct score prediction: Sheff Wed 0-1 Blackburn

There is little to split these two sides coming into this one. Neither have been free-scoring, but have been tight at the back.

However, we back Blackburn to make it a fourth 1-0 win in a row, as Sheffield Wednesday's home record has been underwhelming.

Pre-game odds and win probability: A tight affair

HOME: 6/5  (2.20) – 45.5%
DRAW: 23/10 (3.30) – 30.3%
AWAY: 11/5 (3.20) – 31.3%

*Odds from Ladbrokes, subject to change

The bookmakers favour Sheff Wed as expected winners here. Their odds of 6/5 imply a 45.5% likelihood of victory. However, we think Blackburn at 11/5 offers better value.

Recent H2Hs: Wednesday on top

Sheffield Wednesday have won the last three meetings between these two sides, by a total of eight goals to two.

However, they will remember all too well their 5-0 hammering at Hillsborough at the hands of the Rovers back in 2020.

Sheff Wed preview: Better on their travels?

Sheffield Wednesday are going steady in the Championship this season, and come into this one in ninth place.

Strangely, Wednesday have actually picked up as many points on the road as at Hillsborough, which is normally a real fortress.

If they can pick up the pace at home, Wednesday could push for the playoffs.

Predicted lineup: Beadle (GK), Valery, Bernard, Lowe, Gassama, Palmer, Charles, Johnson, Windass, Ugbo, Smith

Blackburn preview: On a winning run

Currently in the playoffs, Blackburn are on track for their highest league finish since relegation from the Premier League over a decade ago.

Four straight wins have catapulted Rovers into sixth place, with a game in hand on all those above them.

They have conceded just once in those four games, and we think that confidence at the back will see them claim all three points again.

Predicted lineup: Pears (GK), Hyam, Brittain, Batth, Beck, Tronstad, Baker, Dolan, Cantwell, Hedges, Ohashi

Can Michael Smith find any joy against Blackburn? – Photo by imago/Richard Sellers

Player to watch: Michael Smith

EFL journeyman Michael Smith is on the 14th club of his career, but has found a real home in Sheffield.

The 33-year-old leads Wednesday's front three with aplomb. He has five goals and two assists this season, despite playing just 739 minutes.

With two goals in his last three, he will be Wednesday's biggest hope to breaking Blackburn's resistance.
