Taking to the field for the first time since being stripped of their Africa Cup of Nations title, Senegal face Peru at the Stade de France on Saturday in a friendly encounter.
The Lions of Teranga recorded an extra-time victory over Morocco in the 2025 AFCON final in January, but CAF later overturned the result, proclaiming the North African nation as champions after Pape Thiaw’s side walked off the pitch during the match.
Putting their ongoing fiasco aside, Senegal head into this weekend’s friendly aiming to build momentum towards their World Cup campaign in June, while Peru will use the encounter to gain confidence after missing out on the mundial.

Senegal secured a third consecutive appearance at the World Cup and a fourth overall after finishing top of their qualifying group unbeaten, recording seven wins and three draws to finish two points above second-placed DR Congo.
Looking to move past their AFCON title fiasco, the Lions of Teranga approach Saturday’s encounter in strong form, having avoided outright defeat in seven matches if the forfeit loss is excluded.
Excluding the forfeit defeat, Senegal have not conceded more than one goal in any of their last seven outings.
Pape Thiaw’s men last suffered a regulation defeat against Brazil in a friendly in November, but Senegal responded days later with an emphatic 8-0 victory over Kenya.
The Teranga Lions will have to cope without talisman Sadio Mane for this international window, with the forward omitted after suffering an ankle injury with club side Al-Nassr.
Peru, meanwhile, failed to qualify for the World Cup after finishing second from bottom in the CONMEBOL standings, collecting just 12 points from 18 matches and ending the campaign winless in their final five outings.
That poor run extended into subsequent friendlies, but La Bicolor eventually snapped their eight-match winless streak last time out, defeating Bolivia 2-0 in a December exhibition match.
Peru have found the net at least once in each of their last five friendly matches.
There has been improvement in the final third in recent outings, as Peru, who had failed to score in the previous five games, have now found the net frequently of late.
Currently ranked 53rd in the FIFA World Rankings, Peru face opponents placed 41 spots above them, leaving them as underdogs, though a positive result here would provide a timely confidence boost.

Whispers predict: Senegal 2-1 Peru
