San Diego to win

San Diego have won four games in a row in the MLS.

San Diego FC and Houston Dynamo are scheduled to meet on Sunday, 6 July, in the upcoming MLS round.

Will the hosts continue their winning streak in this game or can Houston put an end to it? Read our San Diego vs Houston prediction and preview to find out.

San Diego vs Houston prediction: Another win for the hosts

Key stats

  • San Diego have only lost once at home in 10 MLS matches, winning six times in the process.
  • Houston only have a couple of wins in nine away games in the league so far.
  • Both teams have averaged more than 2.50 total goals per game in the league (San Diego 3.30, Houston 2.80).
  • In the last three games they've played, San Diego averaged 5.33 total goals per game.

Correct score prediction: San Diego 3-1 Houston

While Houston have won their game in the last round after losing three in a row before that, they haven't been great this season and San Diego away from home will be a very tough game for them.

After all, San Diego are on a four-game winning streak and have only lost once at home so far, so we expect them to get three points from this match and stay at the top of the Western Conference standings.

Most recent H2Hs: First time to meet

This is San Diego's first season in the MLS, so this will be their first-ever meeting with Houston Dynamo.

San Diego FC preview: Hoping to stay at the top

Despite this being their first season in the MLS, San Diego have already proven worthy of a spot since they are currently sitting at the very top of the Western Conference standings with 39 points from 20 games. They have won their last four games in the league and will hope to extend this winning streak against Houston, a team that's outside of the playoff picture at the moment.

That being said, San Diego have more than a few injury issues, with Andres Reyes, Hirving Lozano, Anisse Saidi, William Kumado, Hamady Diop, Patrick McNair and Marcus Ingvartsen all sidelined at the moment.

Predicted lineup: Santos (GK), Verhoeven, McVey, Pilcher, Bombino, Tverskov, Boateng, Valakari, Dreyer, Iloski & Mighten

Houston Dynamo preview: Trying to climb to the playoff zone

After three losses in a row, Houston beat St Louis City in the last round to end this losing streak and stay competitive in the race for the playoffs. They are currently 11th in the Western Conference standings, three points behind the final play-in spot. So, if they want to have a chance of making the playoffs, Houston will have to do much better in the second part of the season.

Meanwhile, Andrew Tarbell and Nelson Quinones are out with injuries, while Jack McGlynn is still with the USA at the Gold Cup.

Player to watch: Anders Dreyer

With nine goals and 12 assists in the league so far, Dreyer has been phenomenal and is one of the main reasons why San Diego, who are in their first-ever MLS season, are currently sitting at the top of the Western Conference standings.
