River Plate preview: River could be unchanged

Head Coach Marcelo Gallardo deployed his troops in a 4-3-3 formation on matchday one against Urawa Reds. River converted three of the four big chances they created in their 3-1 win over the Japanese outfit and they will hope to be just as clinical on Sunday.

Predicted lineup: Armani (GK), Montiel, Pezzella, Quarta, Acuna, Fernandez, Perez, Castano, Mastantuono, Colidio, Driussi

Monterrey preview: Back three likely for Mexicans

Despite being written off before kick-off, Monterrey were able to mix it with Italian giants Inter Milan in their Club World Cup opener. Their 3-5-2 formation worked well against Inter, so expect a similar shape against River Plate.

Predicted lineup: Andrada (GK), Medina, Ramos, Guzman, Chavez, Canales, Rodriguez, Torres, Arteaga, Ocampos, Berterame

Player to watch – Sergio Ramos

Unsurprisingly, Sergio Ramos took centre stage for Monterrey in their Mexicans’ 1-1 draw with Inter Milan on Wednesday. The Spanish veteran made his presence felt at both ends of the pitch against the Nerazzurri and the 39-year-old should be just as heavily involved against River Plate

Ramos certain to be in the thick of the action

The defender’s performance against Inter was a stereotypical Ramos display. The centre-back scored the opening goal with his head from a corner and ruffled plenty of feathers with his famed combative style. Expect more of the same from Ramos against River Plate.
