Chelsea to score under 1.5 goals

Fluminense have kept a clean sheet in their two other matches against European sides at the Club World Cup.

Fluminense will take on Chelsea in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup on Tuesday, 8 July, with both teams looking to make it to the first-ever final of the event.

The Brazilian side have become the tournament's dark horses over the past three weeks, and they are now the final non-European side remaining.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are also unlikely semi-finalists. The Blues only finished fourth in the Premier League last season, but they are now on the verge of making the final.

Ahead of kick-off at the MetLife Stadium, check out our Fluminense vs Chelsea prediction below.

Fluminense vs Chelsea prediction: Extra time is on the cards

Key stats

  • Fluminense have only conceded more than one goal in one of the five matches they have played at the Club World Cup.
  • Chelsea's only defeat at the 2025 Club World Cup came against a Brazilian side.
  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in two of Fluminense's last three matches.

Correct score prediction: Fluminense 1-1 Chelsea

Chelsea needed extra time to overcome Benfica in the Round of 16, and we are expecting the same to happen here, as Fluminense are a tough nut to crack. The Brazilian side were also on their way to a 1-1 draw in the previous round until Hercules netted a winner in the second half.

Most recent H2Hs: A first-ever meeting

The match on Tuesday night marks the first time that Chelsea and Fluminense have ever played against each other. Chelsea have only ever played four competitive matches against Brazilian sides before, winning two and losing two. Fluminense have only ever played one match against an English side before, which ended in defeat to Manchester City in December 2023.

Fluminense preview: Legendary centre back to face his former club

Tuesday night will be a particularly special occasion for centre back, Thiago Silva, who will line up against his former club. The 40-year-old has a nose injury, but he won't let that stop him from taking to the field at the MetLife Stadium. Two players who have no choice but to miss the match are Juan Pablo Freytes and Martinelli, as the pair are suspended.

Predicted lineup: Fabio (GK), Ignacio, Silva, Fuentes, Xavier, Bernal, Nonato, Hercules, Rene, Cano, Arias

Chelsea preview: Suspensions of their own

Chelsea are also dealing with a pair of suspensions, with Liam Delap and Levi Colwill both set to miss out on Tuesday due to picking up too many yellow cards at the tournament. New signing, Joao Pedro, could come into the starting XI after making his debut off the bench against Palmeiras in the quarter-finals.

Player to watch: Joao Pedro

Joao Pedro came off the bench against Palmeiras last time out and the Brazillian is expected to play from the start tonight. The former Brighton man will be competing with Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson for a starting spot in the Chelsea XI next season, so making a quick start to his career with the Blues could be pivotal, especially with Delap unavailable.
