Rio Ave vs Farense prediction
🔥 Our Hot tip

Match result - Draw

These two teams finished on the exact same points with the exact same goal difference last season

Rio Ave will take on Farense in the Primeira Liga on Saturday, 17 August in a match that already feels important for both teams after their opening day performances.

Rio Ave fell to a 3-1 defeat away at Sporting Lisbon last Sunday while Farense lost 2-1 at home to Moreirense. Starting the new season with back-to-back defeats would be far from ideal for either club so getting points on the board here is important.

As part of our latest round of Primeira Liga betting tips, check out our Rio Ave vs Farense prediction below.

Rio Ave vs Farense prediction: Two evenly matched teams to go nose to nose

Key stats

  • The most recent clash between Rio Ave and Farense finished in a draw.
  • Rio Ave were the king of the draws last season, with 19 of their 34 league matches finishing without a winner.
  • Rio Ave have failed to score more than one goal in each of their last five appearances while Farense have failed to score more than once in four of their last five.

Correct score prediction: Rio Ave 1-1 Farense

After both teams lost their opening matches of the season last weekend, the main aim this week will be to avoid defeat. As a result, neither side would be too unhappy with a draw which often leads to a boring spectacle. Rio Ave were famed for drawing matches last season while Farense have drawn two of their last four.

Pre-game odds and win probability: The hosts go in as favourites

  • Home: 1/1 (2.00) – 15.4%
  • Draw: 5/2 (3.50) – 22.2%

The Rio Ave vs Farense odds indicate that the home side are the favourite to win this match despite history telling us that these two teams are incredibly evenly matched. A Rio Ave victory has been priced at 1/1 with Betfred while a Forense win has been priced at 13/5. The draw, which we are backing, has been priced at 5/2.

Most recent H2Hs: Advantage Rio Ave

Rio Ave and Farense have played each other across two divisions in recent times but it is Rio Ave who have come out on top more often than not. They have won six of the last nine H2Hs between the two clubs but there is still some cause for optimism in the Farense camp as they went unbeaten against Rio Ave in the Primeira Liga last season.

Rio Ave preview: Moving on from last week

Rio Ave wouldn't have been expecting much from their opening match against Sporting Lisbon but shipping three goals is never a pleasant experience. They can take encouragement from getting on the scoresheet and will view this game as their real opener.

Farense preview: Building on a promising campaign

Following their promotion to the Primeira Liga in 2023, Farense enjoyed a fruitful campaign last season finishing in 10th position, without any worries of relegation. If they can build on that this time around or even finish in a similar position, then they will consider it a job well done.

Player to watch: Clayton

Clayton

Brazilian striker, Clayton, has been tasked with adding goals to this Rio Ave team this season and on his competitive debut for his new club, he managed to get on the scoresheet against Sporting Lisbon. Although the goal was nothing more than a consolation at the end of the match, it could give him some confidence coming into this one.

Clayton spent half of last season at fellow Primeira Liga side, Casa Pia and the other half back in his native Brazil. He scored eight times for Casa Pia, which would have been enough for him to be Rio Ave's top scorer.
