After losing 4-0 to Olympique Lyon just before the three-week international break, Rennes needed a big response and certainly delivered, beating Auxerre and OFI Crete by a combined score of 6-2 in their first two games back.
However, Franck Haise’s side then suffered a narrow defeat to Paris FC in a seven-goal thriller at Stade Jean Bouin, before playing out a 2-2 draw with Juventus on the second Europa League matchday.
Les Rouge et Noirs have not lost three straight competitive matches since early February, and their recent record against Strasbourg suggests a return to winning ways could be on the cards, with victories in each of the last three meetings.
Rennes are also one of six teams yet to lose a home league game this season, picking up 10 points from a possible 12. Their 10 goals scored at home are the joint-most in the league alongside Lyon.
However, Sunday’s hosts will be without leading goalscorer Esteban Lepaul, who departed the Paris FC match with an ankle injury moments after converting the third of three penalties to bring his tally to seven goals in nine appearances across all competitions.
Since their takeover by the BlueCo consortium, Strasbourg have emerged as European contenders, securing top-eight finishes in each of the last two seasons, although they narrowly missed out on continental football last term.
Many expected the lack of European commitments would work in their favour, but Les Bleus et Blancs’ start to 2026-27 suggests another impressive league campaign may be out of reach.
After a 4-0 thrashing by Marseille in their opener, Hugo Oliveira’s side bounced back with consecutive wins over Lens and Troyes and a 1-1 draw with Monaco. However, they have since lost three matches in a row, most recently falling 3-1 to Paris Saint-Germain.
As in their previous loss to Nice, Strasbourg were once again undone by late goals, conceding in the 85th and 93rd minutes to Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue. That took their total goals conceded in the final 15 minutes to seven – nearly half of their season tally of 15.
After this weekend, Sunday's visitors face a four-game stretch against teams below or just above them in the table, and the next five weeks could prove pivotal in shaping their campaign.

Whispers predicts: Rennes 2-1 Strasbourg
Strasbourg's last win at Roazhon Park came in 2018; since then, they have lost five of their last six visits. A Rennes win at 3/4 (1.75) appears the most likely outcome.
Strasbourg and Rennes have managed just one league clean sheet between them this season, suggesting goals at both ends. As a result, BTTS – Yes at 11/25 (1.44) looks a logical selection.
Rennes' Adrien Thomasson is averaging 1.7 fouls per game and has been booked in three of his seven league appearances. He is priced at 7/2 (4.50) to be carded this weekend for those looking for a more adventurous punt.
