Rennes to win

Rennes have won seven straight home matches against Nantes.

High-flying Rennes will set out to continue their recent resurgence for a place in Europe when they face off against Nantes on Sunday in round 31 of the 2025-26 Ligue 1 season.

While the hosts are nursing continental aspirations, this weekend's trip to Roazhon Park is about top-flight survival for the visitors as they currently sit nine points adrift of safety.

Since losing four consecutive matches around the start of February, Rennes have emerged as Ligue 1's most in-form side, winning seven of their last nine games and losing only once—to Lille.

Franck Haise's men made light work of Strasbourg last time out, running out emphatic 3-0 winners thanks to goals from Esteban Lepaul, Breel Embolo and Mousa Tamari.

Capitalising on Marseille's defeat to Lorient, Les Rouge et Noirs have climbed into the Europa League spot and are on course for Europe's second-tier competition. They are also just a point behind Lille in third and remain in contention for Champions League qualification.

After squandering a 2-2 lead against Nantes in this season's earlier meeting, Rennes will hope to go one better on Sunday. Their home record in this fixture is strong, with seven straight wins.

Still on course for the Golden Boot, French forward Esteban Lepaul will be looking to deliver once again following his man-of-the-match display last time out.

After three consecutive draws, Nantes' 3-0 defeat to champions-elect Paris Saint-Germain was hardly a surprise, but it brought them a step closer to the end of their 13-year Ligue 1 stay.

Inefficiency at both ends of the pitch has defined Les Canaris' campaign; only one team has kept fewer clean sheets, and their 25 goals are the joint fewest in the division.

As things stand, it is highly unlikely Vahid Halilhodzic's men will climb out of the bottom three, with the relegation play-offs now their best hope of survival.

However, Nantes must first make up a five-point gap from 16th-placed Auxerre, leaving them with little margin for error heading into the final four matches of the season.

Whispers predicts: Rennes 2-0 Nantes

Rennes are in blistering form, and with Nantes struggling, the hosts are strong favourites to come out on top at 1.42.

Having failed to score in each of their last four away matches, Nantes' attacking woes could continue, making BTTS – No at 1.95 an appealing selection.

Esteban Lepaul has scored eight goals in 10 outings for Rennes since February. The striker, who netted against Nantes in September, is priced at 1.90 to continue his rich vein of form.

> 1x2 - Rennes to win at 1.42 | Likelihood: Probable
