Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (2.5/5): Story gathering pace
West Ham have added Marcus Rashford to their list of targets after securing Graham Potter as their new boss, joining Milan, Borussia Dortmund and Como in the race to sign the Manchester United forward.
Caughtoffside.com is one of a number of outlets reporting this news, suggesting there could be some meat to the rumour.
Value (2.5/5): Permanent deal on the cards?
Many of the other clubs said to be interested have indicated they want to take Rashford on loan, while West Ham seem to be intent on a permanent deal for the wantaway England international.
That could put the Hammers at the front of the queue, though United's £40-£50 million asking price is steep given his current form.
Suitability (4/5): Potter formation unclear
It remains to be seen which formation Potter will opt for at the London Stadium, but he has previously used a front three, two attacking midfielders behind a lone striker, and two up top.
Whether he would be used in his preferred left-wing role or as a centre-forward is unclear, but either way, he will bring vast Premier League experience to a squad which has not lived up to its potential this season.
Upgrade? (3/5): Is Summerville any worse?
The Hammers only have one recognised left-winger at present – Crysencio Summerville – who started fewer than half the league games under Julen Lopetegui and registered two goal involvements.
An example of a talented player who West Ham have not seen the best of yet, it is not as if his output has been much worse than Rashford's contribution for Man Utd this term.
Logic (3/5): Move away preferable?
Rashford spoke of wanting a new challenge, which the Hammers would provide, yet he may have his sights on a move abroad and out of the English spotlight.
For West Ham, it would be a statement signing, but questions over his attitude, on top of poor form, make this a real risk.
Whisper+ verdict: 15/25
The West Ham rumour mill was likely to go into overdrive after Potter's arrival, but for now some of the European options for Rashford look more credible.
