Rapid Wien vs Dundee United prediction: Austrians to reign supreme

Key stats

  • Rapid Wien are on a five-match winning run in competitive fixtures stretching back to last season, keeping clean sheets in four of those outings.
  • Dundee United have lost six of their last 12 competitive away games stretching back to last season, failing to score in four of those defeats.
  • Rapid scored exactly two goals in their only previous competitive home clash against the Scottish club.

Correct score prediction: Rapid Wien 2-0 Dundee United

The Austrians head into this clash in red-hot form, with their recent performances overshadowing Dundee United’s respectable run. While the Scottish visitors are unbeaten in their last four competitive matches, widening the scope reveals four defeats in eight.

Importantly, those matches have not pitted them against opponents of Rapid Wien’s quality, and with the home side also winning the only previous competitive meeting between the sides in Vienna, they are tipped to come out on top once again.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Hosts overwhelming favourites

  • HOME: 2/7 (1.29) – 77.5%
  • DRAW: 19/4 (5.75) – 17.4%
  • AWAY: 8/1 (9.00) – 11.1%

*odds from Ladbrokes, subject to change

Rapid’s status as firm favourites is reflected in their 2/7 (1.29) odds, with a win probability of 77.5% — understandable not only due to their home advantage but also because of their superior European experience, having qualified for the group stage of a continental competition in three of the last four seasons.

By contrast, Dundee United have featured in Europe just once in over a decade. Taking anything back to Scotland would be seen as a significant upset, with their chances of a win rated at just 11.1%, while a draw stands at 17.4% probability.

Most recent H2Hs: Balanced competitive history

These teams have met three times previously, although only two were in competitive settings — both during the 1984 European Cup. Each side triumphed on their own turf, with Rapid securing a 2-1 win in Austria before Dundee United responded with a victory in the return leg. The most recent encounter was a friendly in 2012, where the Austrian outfit claimed a 3-0 success.

Rapid Wien preview: New arrival to shine again?

Rapid earned their spot in the Conference League qualifiers after defeating LASK Linz 4-3 on aggregate in a post-season play-off, having finished fifth in the championship round of the 2024–25 Bundesliga campaign.

Die Grün-Weißen made light work of Montenegrin club Decic in the second qualifying round, progressing with a 6-2 aggregate win, capped by a 4-2 triumph at home in the second leg.

Peter Stoger’s men continued their strong form into domestic action with a 1-0 win over BW Linz in their league opener last weekend — a match settled by new signing Petter Dahl, who has already made a name for himself since arriving in July.

Predicted XI: Hedl (GK), Bolla, Cvetkovic, Ahoussou, Auer, Amane, Grgic, Seidl, Dahl, Antiste & Radulovic

Dundee United preview: New attacking trio set to lead the line

Dundee United are back in European competition after a solid domestic campaign last term that saw them finish fourth in the Scottish top flight.

Steven Pressley’s side progressed with back-to-back 1-0 wins over Luxembourg’s UNA Strassen in the previous round, sealing a 2-0 aggregate result.

Their league opener over the weekend ended in a 2-2 draw with Falkirk, with recent acquisitions Max Watters and Ivan Dolcek both finding the net. The pair are expected to retain their places in the attack, alongside fellow newcomer Zachary Sapsford, who also featured in that match.

However, central defender Ross Graham remains sidelined due to a hamstring injury and will play no part in this tie.

Predicted XI: Kucherenko (GK), Sevelj, Iovu, Esselink, Keresztes, Camara, Sibbald, Pappoe, Sapsford, Watters & Dolcek
