Rangers' 2-2 draw with Dundee last weekend came out of nowhere, with Gers on a great run of seven consecutive victories prior to the match at Dens Park.
What made the draw particularly surprising were the two goals Rangers conceded, as they had kept a clean sheet in six of those seven wins. Derek McInnes will be hoping that the score draw was a mere anomaly and that his team can get back on track this weekend.
With Celtic playing on Sunday on the back of a European assignment on Thursday, there is a chance that Rangers can close the gap this weekend, but to do that they must take care of business at Ibrox.
Their recent record against St Johnstone suggests the result is almost a foregone conclusion, with Gers currently on a run of nine consecutive victories over the Saints.
It is up to Simo Valakari and his team to try and put an end to that record, but even just scoring a goal on Saturday would be progress considering they have scored just once across those nine defeats to Rangers.
Their form coming into the match isn't great, either, with just one win from their last four matches, and just one away win all season.
At the same time, we shouldn't expect too much from the Saints this season, as they have only just returned to the Scottish Premiership following a successful Championship campaign last year.
In terms of injuries, Rangers are missing Cameron Devlin, Daisuke Yokota, Jose Cifuentes, Lawrence Shankland, Ross McCrorie and Youssef Chermiti, while St Johnstone are only missing Zach Mitchell.
