Rangers vs Newcastle Lineups, Match Information, and Team News
Rangers
This will be the Rangers' first preseason game after ending the season with four wins in the last five matches. Rangers management focuses their attention this summer on bringing in new attacking-minded players. They splashed the cash on center-forwards Cyriel Dessers from Cremonese and Sam Lammers who arrived from Atalanta. When those transfers were settled, the club decided to sell striker Antonio Colak to Parma. Winger Ryan Kent also departed choosing a new challenge with Fenerbahce. Rangers want to dethrone Celtic as the best team in Scotland and these important changes should bring them closer to that goal. There are plenty of injuries at the club ahead of this friendly game: Connor Goldson, Leon King, Steven Davis, and Nnamdi Ofoborh are expected to miss the game.
Predicted lineup: Butland, Davis, Souttar, Barisic, Tavernier, Raskin, Jack, McPake, Cantwell, Sakala, Dessers.
Newcastle
After coming back from a 2-0 down against Gateshead and winning the match, Newcastle is continuing their preparation for the new season that will give them a chance to compete in the Champions League. Only a year after the Saudi Investment Fund bought the club making it the richest in the world, Newcastle United fans are thrilled with the quick improvement in the team's fortunes. The club management is not throwing the money around, however, they spent most of their transfer budget on Sandro Tonali and Yankuba Minteh while Chris Wood was sold to Nottingham Forest. It is to be seen whether this team is good enough to compete in Europe's most prestigious tournament.
Predicted lineup: Pope, Botman, Schar, Targett, Krafth, Guimaraes, Longstaff, Joelinton, Gordon, Fraser, Isak.
Player to Watch: Fashion Sakala
Rangers will have a different look in the attack with Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers arriving, but the one player that should get enough attention is Fashion Sakala. The Zambia international has been at the club for two years, he played in 91 games scoring 24 goals while delivering 15 assists. He was originally brought in from the Belgian outfit Oostende.
Sakala is 26 years old and it seems that he has value in the new manager's eyes as Michael Beale knows what he can get from the talented striker. Throughout his career, Sakala scored 68 goals in 232 games while assisting 27 times. He has been capped by Zambia national team on 24 occasions scoring seven goals.
