Hibernian or draw

Hibs have avoided defeat in each of their last two matches against Rangers.

Rangers will take on Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday, 9 August, with the hosts looking to bounce back from their disappointing opening-day draw with Dundee United.

With Gers already chasing Celtic, they can ill afford a repeat of last season when they failed to win any of their first five league matches of the season.

If Derek McInnes wasn't aware of what the demands are like at Rangers Football Club before he took the manager's job, then he will now, as the pressure is already starting to mount on the former Hearts boss.

Failing to beat Dundee last Friday was one thing, but a 2-1 defeat to Jagiellonia Bialystok in the first leg of their third-round Europa League qualifying match was a real sucker punch.

While there are no suggestions that McInnes could lose his job imminently, another poor result against Hibs and the comparisons with Russell Martin are almost certainly going to start circulating.

With the second leg of their Europa League qualifier to come on Thursday, McInnes is already facing dilemmas over squad selection. Connor Barron (knee) and Jose Cifuentes (knee) are both unavailable, while Ben Godfrey is a doubt after picking up an injury last weekend.

Former Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland will be keen to get his first competitive goal for Rangers as quickly as possible and should lead the line here.

As for Hibs, they are enjoying more success than Rangers in Europe so far this season, and come into this one full of beans after overcoming Shkendija in the first leg of their Europa Conference League qualifier.

While there is still work to do in North Macedonia to make it through to the final playoff round, they will first be focused on taking something against a fragile Rangers team at Ibrox.

Hibs won on their last visit here in May, and manager David Gray will be banking on a similar performance to that here to ensure they don't start their Premiership campaign with two defeats following a loss against Motherwell last weekend.

Gray will be without Nicky Cadden (calf), Jamie McGrath (calf) and Rocky Bushiri (Achilles tendon) on Sunday.
