A shaky and winless preseason was followed by PSG’s first title of the new season, as they beat  Aston Villa 2-1 to lift the UEFA Super Cup.

However, Luis Enrique’s men failed to replicate that result in the Trophee des Champions showdown against Lens. Florian Thauvin’s sole strike in the opening half proved sufficient to deny PSG a fifth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Parisians have gone through a summer of change, adding the likes of Mika Godts, Ferran Torres and Maghnes Akliouche to their ranks.

Three players are missing for PSG: Nuno Mendes, Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye. Rennes have only one player missing in Mahdi Camara due to accumulation of yellow cards.

Rennes secured European football last season by the narrowest of margins, for the first time since the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League campaign. They finished sixth in Ligue 1, earning their spot in the 2026/27 Europa League.

Franck Haise’s men have endured a difficult pre-season, losing three consecutive matches and four in total from seven friendlies.

They will however be glad to play their season opener on home turf, after Parc des Princes was deemed unusable due to the pitch being damaged by extreme heat.

Rennes will eye a fourth consecutive opening day win in Ligue 1 when PSG visit Roazhon Park.

Whispers predicts: PSG 3-1 Rennes

At 21/20 (2.05), Over 3.5 total goals offers significant value. Only one of PSG’s last four Ligue 1 games went over the mark, and thirteen of Rennes’ last 15 top-flight games produced over 2.5 goals. However, the stakes are high in this season opener – expect the goals to flow.

Six of Rennes’ last seven league matches saw both teams score. BTTS – Yes at 1/2 (1.50) is a bet worth backing.

Ferran Torres as an anytime goalscorer on his Ligue 1 debut at 21/20 (2.05) carries similar value to the total goals bet. His move from Barcelona is one of the most anticipated deals of the summer.

Both teams are expected to play out the first-half cautiously, before the floodgates open in the second period. A half-time draw at 13/8 (2.62) offers handsome returns.
