PSG vs Angers predictions: Hosts to reign supreme

Key stats

  • Paris Saint-Germain have won 18 consecutive encounters with Angers.
  • At least one team failed to score in Angers’ last eight games.
  • Fewer than four cards were awarded in eight of the last nine clashes between these sides.

Correct score prediction: PSG 3-1 Angers

To be fair, Angers are on a six-game unbeaten run in which they did not concede a single goal. However, keeping a clean sheet against this PSG side is easier said than done.

Not only did the defending champions come out on top in 18 consecutive meetings between these teams, but they also have not lost their last 31 meetings with Angers, stretching back to January 1975.

Keeping in mind that PSG won 12 of their last 14 games across all competitions, we are confident that the hosts will claim all the spoils after 90 minutes.

PSG preview: A clean bill of health

The reigning champions have no injury concerns ahead of their first home game of the season as they look to string back-to-back wins in Ligue 1 after the opening win away at Nantes.

With Gigi Donnarumma’s exit only a matter of time, PSG's new first-choice goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier is expected to keep his place between the sticks this weekend.

However, changes are expected in the backline, with Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho and Nuno Mendes likely to start, as all four were excused from last weekend’s starting XI.

In midfield, Vitinha, who scored PSG's first league goal of the campaign, should run the show alongside compatriot Joao Neves and Spaniard Fabian Ruiz.

Predicted lineup: Chevalier (GK), Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes, Ruiz, Vitinha, Neves, Barcola, Dembele & Kvaratskhelia.

Angers preview: Eyeing their fifth consecutive victory

Coach Alexandre Dujeux will not be able to call on the services of midfielders Louis Mouton, who misses out due to a red card suspension, while Himad Abdelli remains sidelined with an injury.

Burkina Faso goalkeeper Herve Koffi delivered a man-of-the-match performance for Angers last weekend, as his seven saves ensured Les Scoistes earned their first win of the campaign against newly promoted side Paris FC. The 28-year-old will again look to be at his best against the best attack in Ligue 1 this weekend.

Esteban Lepaul, who scored the only goal for Angers last time out, should lead the line up front.

Predicted lineup: Koffi (GK), Hanin, Lefort, Camara, Arcus, Raolisoa, Courcoul, Belkebla, Cherif, Belkhdim & Lepaul.
