Authenticity (3/5): TEAMtalk reports – hot and cold
TEAMtalk has reported that Paris Saint-Germain are looking to enact a transfer of a massive scale to try and sign Manchester City superstar Haaland in January as Les Parisiens struggle to impress after Kylian Mbappe's departure. The report has suggests that PSG are ready to make a world-record bid to pry the Norwegian striker away from Etihad Stadium.
According to the report, Haaland is uncertain about extending his contract with Manchester City amid uncertainty over Pep Guardiola’s future at the club. Additionally, the striker is said to be considering Manchester City's potential penalties for breaching the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules, which wmight affect the club in the coming few years.
TEAMtalk's reports need to be considered with a fair amount of leeway as their authenticity tends to vary quite a bit from story to story.
Value (2/5): World record transfer on the cards
It is obvious that PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi would be willing to do almost anything to put his club back into the spotlight once again after losing Mbappe. We have already seen the Ligue 1 side purchasing power over the years, and breaking yet another transfer fee record will not be a surprise to many.
Transfermarkt have valued Haaland at €200 million (£166m) and the Norwegian would definitely go for well over that price point considering Manchester City will not be willing to sell the striker and he still has a contract until 2027.
Suitability (2.5/5): PSG's squad not built for a striker
Haaland may be the best striker in the world at the moment, however, it has been proven time and time again that he needs a playmaker behind him to feed him onto goal. At the moment, Luis Enrique's squad lacks such a profile and Haaland will more likely than struggle to get the numbers he does get under Guardiola.
Upgrade? (5/5): Haaland an upgrade on any striker
Haaland would be an unimaginably superior upgrade over PSG's current striker options in the form of Randal Kolo Muani and Goncalo Ramos. The current two options have not been very impressive for the Ligue 1 champions and the addition of Haaland to the fray would simply blow them into the dirt.
Logic (1/5): An illogical move for both parties
On a personal level for Haaland, staying at Manchester City may be a risk with all the aforementioned potential issues involved. However, a move to PSG would simply not be a very smart one on the Norwegian's part as Les Parisiens are known to self-implode despite the amount of talent they may possess. Just look at how Neymar Jr.'s move in 2017 turned out for him.
As for PSG, while the move would be a marquee signing for them, it would always remain a move simply to satisfy the club management's hunger and ego for superstars without taking into account where and how they would actually fit in.
Whisper+ final verdict – 13.5 /25
Haaland's move to PSG may well come true in the future, depending on what happens when the investigation into Manchester City's financial affairs is concluded. However, the move would simply be a letdown for both parties unless they work over the key sporting details rather than just the financial ones.
