PSG most expensive signings: Les Parisiens boast world’s only £150m+ transfers

Since being purchased by Qatari Sports Investments back in 2011, Paris Saint-Germain have become synonymous with huge spending, and with good reason.

Les Parisiens have the second highest net spend over the last decade, with only Manchester United spending more than their €1bn on players in that time, and that's before you even get to the wages…

Regular attendees of the Parc de Princes have duly witnessed some of football's greatest ever players thanks to the lavish spending of their club's proprietors, doing much to soothe the sole thorn in the club's side, which is the Champions League trophy – or lack thereof.

So get ready for some eye watering sums if you dare to read on!

PSG most expensive signings: the top five

Paris Saint-Germain have bought the two most expensive players of all time – Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. Even more extraordinarily, the club agreed both deals in summer 2017.

1) Neymar – £189m

The most expensive player of all time by some distance, even seven years later. PSG shocked world football when they triggered Neymar's Barcelona release clause in 2017, and the Brazilian was bought out of his contract for an astonishing £189m.

Neymar performed at an incredibly high level in Paris, when available. Throughout his PSG career, he averaged a goal or assist every 78 minutes and lit up games with his individual brilliance.

But the maverick attacker suffered a succession of injuries, limiting his availability. He never made more than 22 Ligue 1 appearances in a season.

2) Kylian Mbappe – £155m

After watching an 18-year-old Mbappe tear up the 2016/17 Champions League, PSG went all out to get the French forward.

But even PSG couldn't afford to sign Mbappe and Neymar outright in just one window, so Mbappe joined on loan, with an obligation to purchase the teenager for £155m in 2018.

Mbappe was devastatingly effective for PSG. He is their record goalscorer and has won it all domestically.

However, with the 25-year-old now at Real Madrid, all parties will feel disappointed he did not lift the Champions League at his hometown club.

3) Randal Kolo Muani – £81m

PSG changed their approach in 2023, targeting younger players, often with links to Paris or France to foster a stronger identity than their previous ‘Galactico-lite' teams had possessed.

Randal Kolo-Muani was part of this strategy, signed for £89m after a 24-goal season at Eintracht Frankfurt. The 25-year-old Frenchman has struggled to translate his Bundesliga form to Paris, though, with just six league goals to his name.

4) Achraf Hakimi – £58m

Joining from Inter Milan in 2021, Achraf Hakimi was considered one of the best wing-backs in Europe.

A slam-dunk of a transfer, Hakimi has continued in this vein, scoring 14 goals and providing 18 assists from right-back while still being tough defensively.

5) Goncalo Ramos – £55m

Goncalo Ramos burst onto the international stage with a hat-trick against Switzerland at the 2022 World Cup, pushing him to the top of many a transfer wishlist.

PSG won the race to sign Ramos from Benfica for £55m last summer.

The Portuguese striker has had mixed fortunes in Paris. Last season, illness and injury limited his involvement, but the 23-year-old still scored at a rate of two in three games.

With Mbappe out of the way, PSG will be hoping Ramos' goals can help fill the void.
