Portsmouth vs Norwich prediction: Pompey on the up

  • Portsmouth have scored eight goals in their last three games.
  • Norwich are without a clean sheet in their last 10 games.
  • This is the pair's first league meeting since May 2011.

Correct score prediction: Portsmouth 2-2 Norwich

Portsmouth secured a shock 3-0 win over Bristol City on Saturday afternoon, bringing them within a point of safety, with a game or two in hand over rivals.

Norwich, meanwhile, had a shock 3-0 defeat at QPR, leaving them six points off the playoffs.

The Canaries have the better players here, but their poor away form and Portsmouth's resurgence means we back a draw here.

Pre-game odds and win probability: A tight affair

HOME: 15/8  (2.88) – 34.8%
DRAW: 5/2 (3.50) – 28.6%
AWAY: 13/10 (2.30) – 43.5%

*Odds from Ladbrokes, subject to change

The bookmakers do not have a clear expected winner in this game, but favour Norwich. Their odds of 13/10 imply a 43.5% likelihood of victory, though we think a stalemate is more likely.

Recent H2Hs: Long overdue

In a sliding doors moment of the two clubs' then-changing fortunes, Norwich and Portsmouth last played each other in 2010/11. There has been just one 2019 FA Cup meeting since.

Portsmouth won that tie 1-0.

Portsmouth preview: Getting going at last.

Portsmouth failed to win any of their first ten games of the season, but have finally started to hit their stride in the Championship.

The return of striker Colby Bishop has given Pompey a boost, with two wins and a draw in their last three. Only five sides have more points than Portsmouth in their last five.

Predicted lineup: Schmid (GK), Devlin, Poole, Pack, Ogilvie, Dozzell, Potts, Ritchie, Lang, Murphy, Bishop

Norwich preview: Up and down

Norwich are rebuilding under young coach Johannes Hoff Thorup, and the growing pains are there for all to see.

Despite being the league's top scorers, the Canaries are in tenth place, and have picked up just two wins on the road this season.

We think they'll improve from the weekend's defeat,  but a win might be a tall order.

Player to watch: Josh Murphy

Coming through as teenagers, Josh and Jacob Murphy were once the pride of Carrow Road, and the pair earnt the Canaries over £20m in transfer fees.

Josh Murphy has been Portsmouth's most productive player this season, with four goals and four assists. Will he come back to haunt his boyhood club?
