Portsmouth come into the match in dire league form, and although they were sitting comfortably this time last month, they are now very much in the thick of the relegation battle.

There is particular concern about their home form, which means they could perhaps do without a match at Fratton Park, where they have won just once in 2026, this weekend.

What is making Pompey's situation more worrying is the form of other teams at the bottom of the table. Oxford United have picked up 10 points from their last four matches, while Blackburn and West Brom both won on Saturday.

🔍 Whispers Insight

Portsmouth are winless in 11 league games against Derby.

Injuries are a huge problem, too, and on Monday night, John Mousinho will be without Thomas Waddingham, Andre Dozzell, Josh Knight, Mark Kosznovszky, Keshi Anderson, Franco Umeh, Makenzie Kirk, Josh Murphy, Florian Bianchini and Aji Alese.

Derby County, meanwhile, are chasing a return to the Premier League for the first time since the 2007/08 season, when they set the record for the division's lowest-ever points tally (11).

A lot has changed in football in the 18 years since, and although the gap between the Premier League and Championship has widened, the Rams' unwanted record is still intact.

🔍 Whispers Insight

John Eustace is unbeaten in his three Championship meetings with Portsmouth.

If they are to return to the Premier League in time for the 2026/27 season, then they are going to need a strong end to the season. Six points is quite a large gap at this stage of the season, particularly as Wrexham, currently in sixth place, are in good form.

Like their opponents on Monday, Derby are missing a large number of players due to injuries. John Eustace will be forced to play third-choice goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell after John Vickers went off with a groin injury last time out.

Whispers predicts: Portsmouth 1-1 Derby

Neither side can claim to be in good form ahead of Monday night, which makes it difficult to pick a winner, especially when you look at how depleted both squads are. The draw has been priced at 11/5 by Bet365.

One bet that has a brilliant chance of coming in both teams to score at 20/21. Goals have gone in at both ends in five of the last six encounters between the two sides.

Carlton Morris is yet to score since returning from an injury layoff last month. If you think that will change here, he is priced at 11/4 to score anytime with Bet365.
