Porto placed one foot in the quarter-finals of the Europa League in midweek as they held on to see out a 2-1 victory over German outfit Stuttgart when the two sides met in the first leg of their round-of-16 clash at the MHP Arena.
Terem Moffi and Rodrigo Mora netted quick-fire goals to put Porto two goals up, and after Denis Undav pulled one back for Stuttgart in the 40th minute, the Dragoes turned in a solid defensive display to see out their lead and take a vital advantage back to Portugal.
Porto now return to the Primeira Liga, where they are well on course to clinch their first league title since 2022, as they sit top of the standings with 66 points from 25 matches, four points clear of second-placed Sporting CP heading into the season’s run-in.
Francesco Farioli’s men saw their run of three consecutive victories in the league come to an end last Sunday when they were held to a 2-2 draw by rivals Benfica in the O Classico after giving up their two-goal lead in the second half at the Estadio da Luz.
Porto’s goalkeeper Diogo Costa has kept the most clean sheets in the Primeira Liga this season (16), with the Dragoes conceding a league-lowest 10 goals so far.
After three straight games on the road, home comfort awaits Porto, who will be backing themselves to return to winning ways at the Estadio do Dragao, where they have picked up nine wins and one draw from their 10 matches across all competitions since December’s 3-1 loss against Vitoria de Guimaraes in the Taca da Liga.
On the other hand, Moreirense suffered a fresh blow in their slim hopes of securing European qualification as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Nacional when the two sides squared off last Saturday.
In a cagey affair at the Parque de Jogos Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas, Luis Semedo netted right on the stroke of half time to put the hosts in front, but Miguel Baeza hit back for Nacional in the 67th minute to force a share of the spoils.
With that result, Moreirense have now failed to win five of their most recent six matches, dropping 13 points from a possible 18, with a narrow 2-1 victory over Rio Ave at the Estadio dos Arcos on February 16 being the exception.
Moreirense are without a clean sheet in their last 16 games against Porto, a run stretching back to January 2018, when the spoils were shared in a goalless draw at the Parque de Jogos Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas.
With 35 points from 25 matches, Os verdes e brancos are currently seventh in the Primeira Liga standings, 11 points behind fourth-placed Braga in the UEFA Conference League qualifying spot.
While Moreirnese will be looking to find their feet this weekend, next up is a trip to the Estadio do Dragao, where they have lost each of their last 13 visits, conceding 44 goals and scoring just seven goals since December 2012. to face an opposing side who have failed to win any of their last 14 meetings, losing 13 and claiming one draw since a 1-0 defeat in August 2015.

Whispers predicts: Porto 3-1 Moreirense
With the thrill from their Europa League victory over Stuttgart still in the air, Porto will return home with high spirits as they continue their title charge.
The bookmakers have Porto down as favourites to secure the victory at 1.15, and given their dominant record at home in this fixture, we are backing them to come away with all three points unscathed.
While Moreirense have failed to come away with anything in their last 13 trips to the Estadio de Dragao, the odds of Double chance win or away sit at 4.50, which is a tempting outside punt, while a Moreirense victory is currently priced at 17.00.
Four of Moreirense’s last five games have seen both teams score, and a Porto victory + BTTS - Yes sits at 3.75, which is the value bet for us, while the correct score market has a correct score of 3-1 at 13.00.
> BTTS - Yes at 2.75 | Likelihood: Probable
> Porto to lead at half time - 1.57 | Likelihood: Possible
> Porto and BTTS - 3.75 at 1.70 | Likelihood: Probable
> Correct score: 3-1 at 13.00 | Likelihood: Outsider
