Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (3.5/5): Forest linked with Molina
Atletico Madrid's signing of right-back Marc Pubill from UD Almeria, coupled with his non-EU status, has left Nahuel Molina in limbo. It is understood Nottingham Forest can offer the Argentina international an “escape route” this summer.
That is according to Spanish outlet AS, which is generally in the know when it comes to Madrid clubs.
Value (3/5): All possibilities on the table
Atletico have made the 27-year-old available in the market. It is claimed the Reds have contacted the Spanish outfit to explore a loan move and are open to all formulas. The World Cup-winning full-back is valued at €20million by Transfermarkt.
Suitability (3.5/5): Attacking full-back
Molina is brilliant going forward and often likes to take on his man in the final third. However, his positioning and physicality have often made him an easy target for attackers. As such, from the get-go, he was a tactical misfit for Diego Simeone, who rarely pushes his full-backs high. In different surroundings with more freedom, Molina has the traits to shine.
Upgrade? (3/5): Challenge for current stars
Forest already have two brilliant right-backs in Neco Williams and Ola Aina. As such, Molina is likely to be signed with a view to providing competition to current options rather than starting under Nuno Espírito Santo from the get-go.
Logic (1.5/5): Best to look elsewhere
Molina is being pushed out of Atletico due to the arrival of a new right-back. Accordingly, joining a club where there are already two potent right-backs would make little sense for the Argentine if he is keen to play regularly.
Whisper+ verdict: 14.5/25
Talks between the two clubs appear to be at an early stage. Considering Molina's profile, it is difficult to see it progress any further unless there's a surprise sale at Forest.
